Reef Related Honeymoon

Hey all! My fiance and i are getting married in late June/early July and we wanted to go on a honeymoon somewhere where there was great snorkeling on a reef. I know many people on here have done the same thing (or at least taken cool vacations to similar locales) because I've seen all the picture threads, but I didn't bother with remembering where they actually went.

If you guys could give me a suggestion on what you consider the "best", and preferably accompany it with some pictures, I would be really grateful!

Bora Bora.......Pearl Beach Resort.....Awesome reef with amazing corals and anemones....will not regret....no underwater pictures sorry.

Hi,
First congrats on your upcoming wedding.
As far as where to go it would kind of depend on how much you want to spend and how far you want to travel. There is really a lengthy list of really exceptional diving in so many places, Australia, Indonesia, Bahamas, Fiji, Hawaii, St. John, Grand Cayman, Key West and many others. They all have wonderful things to offer.
Have you looked in the SCUBA/Snorkeling forum? I bet there will be tons of information there.
IMO it would be difficult to choose "the best" without supplying us with some more details of your wants and limitations.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding. My wife and i went on our honeymoon to st john usvi four months ago today the snorkling was awesome. The island is pretty low key but that is what most people want on their honeymoon.I agree with the other posts about fiji and bora bora but seems like a long trip and alot of money.

I took a cruise with "celebrity cruise lines" leaving from Puerto Rico, it took us to aruba, curacao, Dominica, Granada, Barbados, St Kitts, Tortola, and 1 or 2 other islands. Good stuff to look at, and not that expensive. Another reasonably priced place that I know is Playa del Carmen, you need to fly to Can Cun and Drive to Playa del Carmen, there are several day trips where you can go snorkel/dive using playa del carmen as a base camp. Excellent food and other stuff to do as well.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, and keep 'em coming! Does anyone have some pictures they took while at these amazing places?

We just got back from Fiji. It was great and the dollar is very strong against the Fijian right now (about 2:1). There are great deals and non stop air from LAX.

We were scuba diving so I can't make any recommendations regarding snorkeling other than you'd have a much better time if you learned to scuba. ;)

If wanting to stay in the USA, hard to beat Hawaii.

Big Island - Kona
Maui - Lahina

Both locations have good SCUBA and snorkeling trips

I spent my honeymoon in Kona.

:love2:

Oh and helecopter trip over the volcano was also a once in a lifetime event... getting to see earth "created"

That was our original plan but decided to take advantage of the exchange rate. We ended up going to Fiji for less that Hawaii or the Caribbean. Kona is still on our list of places to visit but we will do that when exchange rates dictate!

Australia is also a place to consider right now as it is much cheaper than it normally is.

following along on this one, i have my honeymoon planned for october of 2010and im planning as well, really wanted to do hawaii but it seems a bit pricey for me now. i'll take look into bora bora and fiji.

I have done some amazing snorkeling off the coast of Phi Phi Island in Thailand. Incredible waters there in the Andaman Sea! I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Best you check the exchange rate then. Our dollar is closing to parity on the good old US dollar real quick (says he salivating at the thought of our xmas trip to florida). Now just how reef equipment can I cram in a suitcase

Just returned from Australia for a holiday to see family and dropped into a LFS in my home town. To say I was totally shocked was an understatement. $250 for a cleaner shrimp that sells for less than ten in Malaysia. WOW.

Oh yeah, snorkelling. Went to the Perhentians off the Northern tip of Malaysia this year and it was incredible. Many reef sharks, turtles and every fish you could imagine. Word has it that Sipidan though is better again and rated one of best sites in the world.

If you don't want to drop the coin on the Pacific, look into some of the Caribbean islands. Grand Cayman has some nice snorkeling and the Sandals resorts offer a resort SCUBA certification. They give you a crash coarse using the gear and take you on shallow dives all week. It's abou $70/person and you can dive every day if you want. My wife and I went to St Lucia in June and had an absolute blast. I wrote more about the resort in the Honeymoon thread above this one.
