Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

following. looking to get 2 x D120's for my 30x30x20h sps dominate cube. Anyone have any good reasons for getting the photons instead of the D120's beside fancy controls?

I just ordered 2 photon 24 for my 30" 30" 26" cube. Figured it would give full coverage for the tank and might not have to use at full intesity

so where is the best deal to get these? Evergrow? I don't see any prices on their website. What's the best way to go about getting them. Do I just email them and let them know I want a pair of them?

reef breeders has them cheaper then the canadian dealer or the original manufacturer?

Unless you are putting together a large group buy with the OEM, Reef Breeders is the best option.

If you go to the Reef Breeders forum, they are putting together a group buy for individuals right now that would save you some money. That's the best option as of right now.

I got an email back from Evergrow and they were the exact same price as Reefbreeders for the photon32's. So I bought from Reefbreeders obviously.

Same here. I thought evergrow would be cheaper, but not so in my case. Reef breeders group buy for me!!!:spin1:

Looks like I'm going to pick up a pair of the 16's for my tank for the group buy. I've got the wife on board for the purchase, but this has got to look good over the tank (open top, in the family room) or she'll 86 the whole idea. You guys know how it goes...the TV, and the tank are mine, but the house is hers ;P.

I had a T5 fixture hung from the ceiling on my last tank, and she was okay with it. She's not crazy about more holes in the ceiling, and less crazy about 4 than 2. And I agree with her, I'd rather just have 2.

Anybody have any ideas on how to "link" 2 units together? Any ideas other than an EZ Tube type of light rack?

I'm good with a light rack, not sure if she will be...

I like this 'formula'. It simplifies things a bit (perhaps more than intended) but it could potentially be an easy way for buyers to decide which fixtures are right for them.

What depth are you giving for this formula to be effective?
I was using my formula based in part on what Reef Breeders posted on p.3 of this thread. This would be my guess...

60* = +4" spread from all edges (8" maximum between fixtures)
90* = +6" spread from all edges (12" maximum between fixtures)
120* = +8" spread from all edges (16" maximum between fixtures)

For tanks under 24" deep, 120 degree. 24"-30" deep, 90 degree 36"-40" deep, 60 degree. Some of these specs overlap.

We have a custom optics layout that will be standard on all fixtures starting 2/21/13. You can mount it as low as 6" over the water, 8-10" is suggested.

The formula doesn't take into account the increases/decreases in PAR, so its not something to recommend without taking PAR increases/decreases into account, as well as height of the lights, and canopy/no canopy.

Can you expand on this a little? My formula is pieced together using information posted here for keeping SPS in 100% of the tank. In other words... strong enough PAR for SPS in the entire tank. I quoted Reef Breeders in my post in regards to depth of the tank and height of the lights, but maybe I missed something?

Going from 90 degree optics to 120 degree optics causes over a 100 PAR drop from the same height. You may also be affected by light spill, in which the light spills outside of the tank and will further decrease PAR.

Using 60 degree optics will increase the intensity of light being focused under the light, and unless you are running a deep tank, you are very much likely to fry some coral.

The 16" fixture with 90 degree optics (and some 120 mixed in) works great over 24"x24" sections. The 32" works great over 36"x24" sections, but can work over a 48" with reduced light on the sides. Wide tanks may need multiple smaller units running front to back.

Ah, I think I see what you mean. I was under the assumption that the PAR decrease by using the different optics was balanced out by reducing the depth of the tank. Again, my formula is not based on any testing... and I would love to see some done on a trough or big enough tank like the picture I posted on the previous page (so we can see where the PAR drop-off really is). However, I did make adjustments based on optics used. It would go as follows...

8"-10" Suggested Mounting Height:

120* Optics (Tanks under 24" Deep) - 16" maximum between fixtures
Fixture .....Spread
16" x 8".....32" x 24"
24" x 8".....40" x 24"
32" x 8".....48" x 24"

90* Optics (Tanks 24"-30" Deep) - 12" maximum between fixtures
Fixture .....Spread
16" x 8".....28" x 20"
24" x 8".....36" x 20"
32" x 8".....44" x 20"

60* Optics (Tanks over 30" Deep) - 8" maximum between fixtures
Fixture .....Spread
16" x 8".....24" x 16"
24" x 8".....32" x 16"
32" x 8".....40" x 16"

I'm running two photon24 over my 48"x24"x24" tank. Didnt want one 32 to not cover it. Its funny cause they two 24 has about the same leds as a 32 just more spread out. Figure this will let me control my spread better. I wish i could have a 32 and then two 24 to see the difference.

Has anyone received a shipping confirmation since the Chinese new year if so please post when you ordered and when it shipped.

Our value fixture arrived today, ordered first week of Feb. Hopefully will have it hung over the 40 breeder tomorrow night.
