Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

ok so here is a question logan.. if like like the photon32 set blue channel at 10% and the white channel at 100%. any suggestions on ratio on the next order. seems to show more of a contrast on the rock and my regal angels look so much better.. yellow is a more true yellow..

thanks

I will make a new layout for you 10k guys to order custom. Ill make it asap.

I would try more 480nm, and swapping half of the 4500ks for 14k cw. 480s hit a protein (perodinin) know for giving off a brick red color.

Logan, is this kinda what you were thinking? I added two more 480s and changed the inner 4500s to 14,000s. If you have a better layout ideo please let me know

My 120g 48" tank will have a canopy built for it. Do I still need to consider the 32" over the 48"? I want maximum light and don't want shadows on the edges of the tank.

So I am still torn between the 32" and the 48" for my 25" deep 4' 120g tank. In this thread I was recommended not to get a 48" light, but in the reef breeders section many with 48" tanks have gotten the 48" light. I don't really want dark spots in the tank I want it to be bright throughout. However I do want to be able to keep both SPS and LPS without trouble.

Logan, what do you recommend for a 4' tank?

I just ordered the 24 Photon 90 deg last night.

I have read every post in this thread over the last few days. I have an IM Nuvo 16 (24x8.5x13) 5months old with moderate success with a variety of soft and lps corals (see pic). I'm currently running 30 total watts of LEDs with 5 8watt IM fixtures. Im planning to upgrade later this year to a Reef Savvy 112 gallon setup 60x18x24 which I'm in the initial planning stages for all of the hardware. I chose the 24" knowing its overkill for my current setup but with the new tank in mind. I researched hard the AI, Razor Radion fixtures. after reading this thread I've concluded that RB offer the best value for the buck for a programmable fixture.

What are everyone's thoughts on how to introduce the new light to my tank and recommendations for output settings over the acclimation period? If you need more info please ask.

I am new to this hobby (5 months) but have always dreamed of a reef aquarium. I have been online nightly reading on the subject and am dedicated to getting it right. My two boys and wife have fallen in love with the tank and all it's critters and are equally engaged in its success. We spend many weekend hours loitering in the LFSs trying to glean knowledge and look at all of the possibilities of a larger system. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well after speaking with Logan on the phone I've ordered 6 14ks and 6 480nm's to replace 6 of the 450's and 6 of the 4500k's. I saw on another thread someone found a program to do a spectral analisys of a layout so I found it and used it. It doesn't have our bridgelux LEDs to use so you have to pick and choose LEDs that are close to what we have. I did my best to come up with the following:

Default Photon16 Layout as purchased:

My new layout with the replacement LEDs mentioned above.

This is the spectral from my favorite T5 ATI bulb for comparison.

I think the new layout gives a little more rounded blue load and levels out where the greens are more. It also gives a touch more UV for reds from the 480nm LEDs.

Anyone having problems with the photon series?

Anyone having problems with their corals, coralline, or other inverts under these lights?

I've read about half of the thread, but my eyes are burning now and I doubt I will finish.

Looks good with a wider blue spectrum.

I'm noticing quite a few peps customize the leds config.

I'm planning on 3x d120's w/ 90* optics for my 180g mixed.
Are the stock configurations not that great?
If not, anyone have a better config that they are happier with?

I've been through the other thread, but after a few hours I think I only hit the surface, lol.

I have 8 of these which is an Evergrow Default Layout and Love the color and so do my SPS.

D120

Does anyone have a value D120 taken apart? If so do these have a thin aluminum board or rather fins? I don't want to take mine apart just yet as they have security tabs. But if it is the aluminum board I am going to thermal glue a heatsink to mine.

Also are these PWM or analog dimmable. It would be nice to modify them to control with Apex of they are analog.

Thanks

A LOT of people love the default layout of the new photons. He (Logan) updated them over the old ones. It is all personal preference though. There is a guy on here that loves the white channel turned up and the blue turned down. I personally run the complete opposite with the white down and the blue up. Logan will custom do it for you if you want as well. I like the look of mine now but I'm tweaking it to get a couple of corals to "pop" a little more.

Cool.
I guess I'll keep wading through all the other posts to see if I like someone else's custom config better than the stock. I tend to like a little more blue, but not a whole bunch more.

thanks guys!

I'll post what happens when I switch out my LEDs later. I gotta get 'em first though:lol2:

I'm doing my research on lighting and stumbled upon this thread.

The Photon 16 has a very attractive price point and looks like it would work over my 60 cube (24 x 24 x 24) but I'm wondering about the hanging mount.

I was thinking of building a custom canopy for this tank (my boyfriend is pretty handy and offered to build something for me). Is there a way to mount this inside the hood (it would have to be pretty tall I imagine)? I saw one post in this thread that recommended the 90 degree optics, hanging it about 6-8" above the surface.

Has anyone mounted one of these fixtures inside a canopy? Yeah, it looks like I would need a fan in there to keep things cool - just looking at ideas here. I'm not a very trusting soul when it comes to putting hooks in the plaster ceiling and/or I really don't want to put any more holes in the walls/ceilings of my rental.

I also want to be sure that this will work "out of the box". While I can easily manage the basics of reef maintenance, I'm not going to be much into the DIY electronics stuff (I don't see myself ever swapping out the LEDs)

You'll be surprised at how little heat they amass or put out. It is almost cool to the touch and you can feel a little radiant heat when you put your hand under the light.

Did more updating and I'm really liking how it looks. I added more UV and another yellow and took the 500nm out. The combo looks even better then before. I'll have to take some pictures. You would think it would look purple but at 50 percent blue and 50 percent white it looks like a nice cool white 8 to 10k.
