Reeferhead's 150DD Build

Football smootball, get on it! :D I would rather look a new cycling tank (while drinking beers of course) than watch some crummy old football any day lol.

Can't help it, I love football, diehard Bears fan through and through. Now if I had grown up in STL... well... admittedly my viewpoint on football probably would be different. ;)

Very cool Nick! Just curious though, is it as loud as it sounds in the video? My wife would give me the stink eye every time I lifted it if it was on my tank.:eek2:

you get that freshwater test done

Not yet. My return pump is still on back order and I need to pick up a lid for the chamber where the water enters the sump from BK. I may get to it next weekend. I had drill and a fantasy football draft last weekend so I only had about a day to work on the tank.

Oh yeah, its pretty loud, a lot louder than I expected but it only takes a little less than a minute to raise and lower. Perhaps a shorter or lower lift rated actuator may be quieter. The one I have is rated for 200 lbs and extends 24", which admittedly is way more than I need.

Eventually, I'm going to trim the tank stand and hood out to the wall so that none of the mechanicals show when the hood is down. It should look pretty sweet.

I just don't have enough time in a day, but I did get some stuff done. I finally finished plumbing and ran a freshwater test, no leaks :D

I went with an Oceanvisions background, real easy to install.

Also started playing with my aquascape. I have 100 lbs of Marco Key Largo Rock, I won't come close to using it all. Everything will be secured to a 2'X2' 3/4" piece of acrylic using fiberglass threaded rod, PVC nuts and washers, and Thorite cement. I'm trying to elevate all the rock work about an inch above the sand without making it look too hoaky. The nice thing about the threaded rod and nuts is I can easily make adjustments as needed.

this gonna be nice setup when all done, can't wait to see some rock setup in this tank. Have you thought about how your doin rockwork yet,(big island, shelves and overhangs or up both sides like your other tank.)

My aquascape plans are kinda hard to describe so you'll have to wait and see but no rock or coral will come close to touching any glass. I'm going to keep all four sides clean including the back

Final Equipment List

Final Equipment List

The stuff in red I'm looking for particular input on, if you have any.

Tank: Marineland Deep Dimension 150 Gallon 36'X36"X27", Stock Marineland Black Stand and Canopy

Skimmer: Octopus Extreme Cone External 200, fed from overflow drain

Lighting: Lumatech 250/400w ballast, Lumenmax Elite Reflector, Radium single end bulbs, 2 x 36" VHO URI Super Actinics

Circulation: 2 Vortech MP40Ws

Sump: Custom Schplitter 60 Gallon Sump w/ built in Fuge/CDP Tank

Return Pump: Octopus Water Blaster 7000, I already think it's too much (Logik, go ahead you have my permission to say something smart)

Controller: Aquacontroller Apex, WXM for controlling Vortechs, PM2 for Conductivity, IO Breakout box for some switches

GFO and Carbon: Bulk Reef Supply Dual Reactor fed by return pump

Ca/Alk/Mg: 3 BRS Drew's Dosers, I still need to run the lines thru my crawl space. The pumps and reservoirs will be kept on the other side of the house in my laundry room with my RO/DI and new Saltwater

Continuous Water Change System: Still haven't figured out which one to go with yet but I'm going to get a dual head peristaltic pump to handle my water changes. I plan on using the conductivity probe on my Apex to provide as a failsafe. Still working out the details, stay tuned.

Auto Hood lifter: 24" 200lb Firgelli Vertical Actuator, Heavy duty FireTruck Drawer Slides, Custom "œBud" Special Designed Steel Brackets. You've seen it, and it's awesome.

Hood Fans: Looking for a good array I can secure to the back lip of the tank, any suggestions?

Topoff: Level Loc, haven't decided yet if I'll gravity feed it or hook directly to my RO.

Heaters: 2 x 200 watt Eheim Jager on Apex

CDP Tank Lighting: 24" 6 Bulb ATI SunPower, temporarily, once the 60 gallon is back up its going on it and I'll need to figure out another option

Aquascaping: Going to use a mixture of Marco Key Largo Dry Rock and my established LR, everything secured to a single sheet of ¾ acrylic with 3/8" fiberglass threaded rod, PVC nuts and Washers, and Thorite Cement. I'm going for a central open bommie look with plenty of room for growth.

Sand: 1.5" of Tropic Eden MiniFlakes

Am I forgetting anything?
