the reverse durson acts like a baffle and lets the air take the path of least resistance to escape before entering the sump.

I'm just want to see if it will work on my skimmer the same way.

I've been running it for months with just the straight feed, but i'm getting large bubbles into the skimmer body, and am looking for a way to vent it before it gets to the body.

After playing with it for a while I got it to work. However it does eliminate the bubbles altogether. It does however decrease the amount of bubbles that go into the body cause from the overflow. It also made the water much less turbulant than before, and made the water level more consistent.

All I had to do was move it to the very bottom and run the pipe to the height of the skimmer.

Now my sump is whisper quite. And I'm very happy.

I wouldn't suggest anyone doing it unless they are having water level consistency or turbulance in the skimmer body. Or like I was have sound come from the large bubbles popping.

hurleycr, can you post new pics? i'd like to see how you're aspirating the feed and what the foam/water level looks like.

I noticed some dealers are selling the Orca 250 with optional Baldor motor upgrade. Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

sure thing it will take until at least tonight/tom. depending on work today. Sure will.... you want the picture with air on or off?

air on, please; i want to see what it looks like in action vs. mine fed similarly, see if the aspiration make a difference

I have around 350 total system gallons with a medium fish load and heavily stocked with SPS. The system is a 220 and 90 frag plumbed together. The 90 will be downgraded to a 75 in the future. Would the 250 be the best fit or would the 200 work?

You said it best. The 200 would be pushing its bounds at 350gals of a fully stocked tank but I think a 250 would be ideal.

Sorry for lousy pics I was in a hurry, let me know if you need to see something else. Its been running well for two days now. I can't really tell a diffrence in the skimmate, but it is considerably quiter than before.

I just noticed the water level is down in those pics. It was still breaking in, where I just finished cleaning it. I can retake if ya want.

that's okay; i wanted to see where your water/foam line was and what the turbulence looked like. it would be really hard for you to take a picture of the water looking that consistent if there were any turbulence.

i may try your aspiration trick. thanks for taking the time to share, hurleycr.

I'd like to modify/upgrade my RK2 (18" x 72") with the Orca NW/Alita 40 Air pump combination and the ozone safe seal kit...

Link to a dealer that has it all in stock?

I have a 240g with a 60 g sump. it's heavy stocked (big fish) which will work for me the 200 or 250. I like the 200 price but is the 250 worth the extra???

I think a 200 will work for you system to a point. It is really pushing its bounderies at 300 gals with large fish and SPS/reef. A 250 will allow for upgrades in the future and is a safer bet. I think the 250 is worth the extra $, it is a skimming monster. If I were you I would get the Reeflo 250.

Just a thought, wouldn't the upgraded skimmer cup also allow for the shutoff feature to work on waste collectors with the ping pong ball float that shuts the vent down? Which leads to build up of pressure and causes the foam head to collapse. Just a thought.

Also, does anyone have pictures of the feed line comming from their overflows. Just like some others who posted earlier, I am having some trouble with the amount of air that enters into the skimmer from the overflow line. It is a dedicated overflow line straight to the skimmer.

here's pics of my setup, it's only a wee little 200 but it's fed from one of my overflows.

i have the drain line split to allow back flow to go to the sump, or to redirect completely if i shut off the valve on the skimmer feed. unintentionally, that may be aspirating the line. it seems to be working, but my system is a much smaller volume than yours and probably has less turnover.

I cant move mine up any higher in the stand. The return tube is not perfectly level. I know it should be. Will this be a big deal?

You guys really have me thinking about this getting this skimmer. My setup will be very close to this. Fed from overflow and return line into a rubbermaid sump. My question is the water level higher than the return from the skimmer in the rubbermaid tub?

Also I am thinking of getting it for this build http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1321123 Do you think it would be a good choice?
