I am trying to set my water level, but I can't seem to get it low enough. I have the effluent drain higher than the "T" by using 45 degree angles to get it over the rim of my sump. Could this be why? Does the water level drop to the level of the "T"?

Uh Oh!! I had to curve the drain pipe up and over the rim of the sump. And of course I glued everything together already :( I am in big trouble now!

Yep. I posted a few pages back when another reefer wanted to do this. I think he ended up drilling his sump to accomidate the drain. You will have to figure out how to fix this cause I will never skim right.

hopefully you transitioned from metric to english before making the leap over the edge of the sump. if so, then your plumbing problem is easily fixed with parts available at home depot.

i had to elevate my skimmer about 8" from the base of my sump to get the drain over the edge.

I've installed 2 of these... The first was my own ReefFlo Orca-250 in which I had to connect the drain into a sump bulkhead, and the 2nd is a Orca-200 where I had to do the same thing.

Both units run with the standpipe WIDE OPEN and have been fitted with gate valves because the drains are just below water level and it was much easier to control in this manner. Both skimmers are also kicking ass, and I would honestly have to say I'm more impressed with the 200, but for now it also runs a system w/ a heavier bioload which makes a huge difference.

It's on a clients' system, but I'm heading that way in about an hour or so, so I'll be sure to get a few pics for ya.

Chris from Sequence said the air flow can be adjusted to keep the foam level where you want it. I said that some people on this thread said never to restrict the air and he said that was why there is an adjustable valve. My water level is only 1-2 inches too high, but if I restrict the air a bit, the level stays perfect. I can't elevate the skimmer because it is under the stand and I won't be able to get the collection cup off.

 Pump wattage and noise will increase and performance will decrease. I guess if you have no other option, you have to do what you got to do to get it up and running.

I'd cut the plumbing and redo it.

Edit:

Why not build yourself a box to raise the skimmer up. That is what I did since I use a 100g rubbermaid bin for a sump.

tgreen, How much water are you feeding the 200? Am I correct to say you are also running the wedge valve and gate valve fully open?

It's directly fed by 1 of the 2 overflow drains on a 300g system, that is fed by a slightly throttled back Blueline 40px that pushes 1270gph.

The wedge valve IS wide open, but the gate valve is probably about 1 turn closed.

So figure about 600 give or take...

that`s how I want to do mine! where did you get the metric union to go to standard at?

It comes with one.

is it normal for the bubbles to change heights in these skimmmers. Its been running since saturday now and it keep going up and down.

You have to give it time to break in or it will overflow when it does. Mine took over a week. I would run the wedge valve wide open for now.
