glassreef, you have TWO reeflo 250's on your system? you could keep a doberman in there.
I just figured - if you're going to do it - do it right.

ANyone know the recommended flow rate through the Reeflo 250 skimmer?
I would aim for 400-700 GPH.

I didn't mean to dis MRC, I had one of their old becketts and I am currently using a sump Andy custom made for me. Their skimmers have always been good. They have just never made an exceptional skimmer like coralvue has. I was more talking up coralvue than down MRC. I have nothing but respect for both product lines and workmanship.

Less than noble reasons, I'll say. ;)

Hmmmm, which one should I use....

use them both! that's what glassreef does!

awesome picture. i can't believe you're married! my wife would have my head on a rope.

LOL, I actually sold my 200 to get the 250. My wife is very tolerant. Trust me, every dollar that I spend in the fish room costs me double elsewhere. Whenever I get grief I bring up her car payment ;)

Although they breed, I am not currently raising the fry. A buddy of mine produced a batch a while back. After watching him feed them every 2-3 hrs, I determined it was way too much work.

So any updates or new mods that people have done aside from the pro kits.. mods that have worked over time and you would recommend or perhaps other mods that didn't stand the test of time?

From what I have read, the Orca's are no more in their original form and the pro kits have also walked down that road as well. So DIYers, what have you done?? :)

I have an original 250. Still going strong with the following mods.
1. re plumbed exhaust pipe uses a gate valve to adjust the height of the water column versus the twist tube
2. baldour gold motor
3. replaced venturi with menards vinyl hose barb (wider bore)

For those of you that have moved on from your Orca, what are you running now?

3. replaced venturi with menards vinyl hose barb (wider bore)

so you punted the valve all together? or was there more to this mod.. can you explain it please

I replaced the valve with a simple hose barb.

If I occasionally need to restrict the air intake (during skimmer tuning / cleaning or whatever), I can use the valve on the silencer end. 99% of the time, I leave it off for maximum air flow.

Haha. Such a true story. I think I spent 900 dollars for her so I could get a 350 dollar skimmer.
