In Memoriam
I own a store in Clearwater FLA and am considering bringing the Reeflux 12 K bulbs in. Was wondering what those of you who have used this product think about it. Would also like to see the look of these, so if anyone can pass on photos I would be grateful.....Thanks in advance

here is one photo for you:

I love these bulbs I am on my second pair and I am getting great growth and love the color I actually havent even been running my actinics for the past few months

Reeflux bulbs all have very low PAR values.

XM, Iwasaki, Hamilton, Ushio bulbs have much higher PAR values.

where did you get the low PAR from? is that from Sanjay? Can you post the link to Sanjay's test? I lost the link and now can't find it. I am consider going with the ReefLux bulb. Thx!

Is there any one else who has tested the PAR of these bulbs? Sanjay is the only one I have seen to say this and the whole reefcentral has jumped on board, not saying they may not have a lower PAR, but I think more testing is needed

that kind of sucks. Sanjay's test does show Reeflux has a pretty low PAR. The picture I posted is the kind of color I want my tank to look like. crisp white with a tiny bit of blue.

I am trying to decided to go with either Reeflux 12k with CoralVue ballast or Radium 20k with Bluewave7 ballast.

heres some examples from Sanjay's testing.

XM 400W 10K - M59 ballast = 172 PPFD
XM 400W 10K - HQI ballast = 202 PPFD
XM 400W Electronic - not available

Hamilton 400W 10K - M59 ballast = 184 PPFD
Hamilton 400W 10K - HQI ballast = 208 PPFD
Hamilton 400W 10K - Ice Cap ballast = 143 PPFD

Ushio 400W 10K - M59 ballast = 123 PPFD
Ushio 400W 10K - Ice Cap ballast = 138 PPFD

Coralvue Reeflux 400W 10K - Coralvue ballast = 127 PPFD
Coralvue Reeflux 400W 10K - Ice Cap ballast = 129 PPFD
Coralvue Reeflux 400W 10K - M59 ballast = 101 PPFD
Coralvue Reefluxe 400W 10K - HQI ballast = 102 PPFD

Coralvue Reeflux 400W 12K - Coralvue ballast = 125 PPFD
Coralvue Reeflux 400W 12K - Ice Cap ballast = 116 PPFD
Coralvue Reeflux 400W 12K - M59 ballast = 96 PPFD
Coralvue Reeflux 400W 12K - HQI ballast = 159 PPFD

I have the 400 wat 12k and I can't wait to get rid of it. it gives off that hazzy look if you know what that means. almost a cloudy water look

This is going to be a battle, Reeflux users will stand by them the same way XM, Iwasaki, Hamilton, and Ushio users will stand by theres, but the answer you need is will there be a demand for Reeflux if you choose to stock them, and I think it is clear that they will be, Coralvue and Reeflux do have a very good reputation and have a very large number of people using them including some of the tank of the month winners.

to be honest, i could care less about the brand of bulb as long as it produce the color i want which is crisp white with a bit of blue just like the picture i posted. the tank is a pretty good evidence that Reeflux will produce colorful coral so i try not to play the numbers game.

does anyone have tanks run by Reeflux with CoralVue ballast without supplement? i just want to see another tank light by this combo to see how it looks.

oh no, don't get me wrong. :) i know Sasnjay's reputation and his number so i am not questioning it. i just thought if the PAR is lower but if SPS is still able to thrive then i won't have a problem with it. i am just saying as long as the SPS thrives then i can care less about the actual PAR (whether it's high or a bit lower). obviously, that's just one tank so far that i know of but that's why i want others to post and share their experience.

again, i am more onto the color thing and i really want to find a combo that produce crisp white with a bit of blue. the picture is just a good example of what i want my tank (color wise) to look like.

dzhou,

Sorry, dont get me wrong. You must have posted right before I did. My comment was directed to Bradbmbj, not you.

If you prefer Reeflux 12K, grab it and happy reefing.

well if we are going to be objective, in this articles testing higher intensity doesn't neccessarily mean better growth as the 10k bulb had the second highest usable output and was clearly the slowest grower. and not just a little higher intensity much higher than the two bulbs that outgrew it. I'm sure you've seen it . I'd rather take a wholistic approach and consider peoples experience than just number chasing. I have yet to hear anybody disappointed with reeflux 10k bulbs growth results, in fact almost always great growth is reported. Reeflux 12k, well thats another story. Now I'm not going to conclude reeflux 10k users are liars and 12k users are truthful. I tend to believe the reeflux 10k gets the job done and the 12k is a bit of a under achiever based on all data I'm aware of, not just objective numbers
