Refugium

I currently have a 95 gallon tank with a sump under the tank....I want to build me a refugium to fit under the stand as well.....I only have a very limited amount of room though....I have a 10 gallon tank that will fit....but the glass is tempered so I cannot drill any holes.....so I was going to use a rio 200 to send water from the sump to the 10 gallon tank and use a u-tube to overflow from the 10 gallon tank back to the sump.......the ten gallon tank is raised higher than the sump to allow for this.....I am new to this forum and this is my first tank to even have a sump underneath.....does this sound as if it would work? Would really appreciate any suggestions or ideas .......advice as to what problems I might encounter in putting this together......Thanks so much....

You could use a U tube, but are you sure the 10 gallon is tempered? Usually only the bottom glass is tempered on tanks. If thats the case you can add a hole to the back for a basic bulkhead overflow. This would be safer than worrying about a U tube loosing siphon.

I agree that U-tubes are a bit dodgy. The setup would work as described, though. That's about what I am likely to do with my next setup, although I'll be drilling the refugium.

The U-tube will work. I would prefer a drilled tank, though.

I would too.....if you think the glass is not tempered.....I am not real comfy with drilling glass......is there someone that will do it for me ......glass shop or LFS??

A glass shop or a LFS are good places to ask, IMO. I've never had a tank drilled, so I'm not much good there.

instead of using a pump from the sump to the refugium, try and "Y" off of one of your returns to the sump and let part of your return gravity flow into the refugium and then return to the sump
