Regal Angel in my SPS tank

cdamiano

I like Fuzzy Sticks
I picked up a Red Sea Regal Angel thanks to Andy at Aquarium Village quite a few months back. I had it in one of my frag tanks by itself for a while when I first got it to acclimate it and get it eating. It wouldn't eat anything for the first week or so and I tried lots of things. What got him to start eating was clams on the half shell. After a few weeks of that I was able to get him eating mysis and some flake food. I fattened him up for a few more months and then added him to my display tank and crossed my fingers. My tangs bullied him for the first day and then they backed off and haven't bothered him. Here is a picture of "stripey" as my daughter calls him.

You got guts to put that fish in your reef. He's beautiful, I wish you the best of luck with him.

Thanks guys. It was well worth all the work. It really is a beautiful fish. The picture doesn't do it justice. The colors on it are incredible.

had mine for close to a year now and like yours it started with clam on the half shell and now eats everything, pellets and flakes too. I had to remove my PBT for a week becuase of bullying. It will be fine with the SPS just watch your LPS and softies, zoas...I had to remove some of mine. It's funny it will only eat some and leave others alone..just got to find out which ones...it's a beauty good luck with yours!

How did you get him to transition from mysis to Flake?
I have a Blue Throat Trigger that eats mysis but wont touch anything else.Just looks and wont taste.
Everything soaked in garlic beforehand.
Beautiful fish,good luck with him.

what did you have to remove... what was yours picking on?

cdamiano please let us know what yours bothers :)

while I was acclimating it with food etc.. I added different zoas, LPS and softies to see which ones it would bother and it never bothered them. I introduced into the DT and it was fine for a few months, but then it started nippng almost everything. I was feeding heavy also, but it didn't matter. I learned that it prefered certain color zoas like greens, yellows but left reds and oranges alone... the same with my acans. I don't know if it's a individual taste or the whole species...mine is an Indo...like to hear from others

Very nice Chris.....I've been thinking about adding one for a long time.....prefer the yellow bellied Regal's over the gray....striking.

... mine also prefers the smaller polyped zoas rather the larger palys... hopefully yours won't

very nice and it has grwon some from the first pic....has it eaten any of the palys?...mine is hit or miss with zoas and it leaves the larger palys alone...
