Regal Angel not eating......

I've had this Red Sea Regal Angel fish for 2 weeks. It is the only fish I have in my 90gallon reef. First week, it hide all the time and ate most of my zoas. Second week, it has come out of hidding a bit but it has not eaten anything that I've place in the tank. The food consists of Formula 1, Mysis and brine shrimp, and Cyclopeeze mixed together.

What can I do to make this fish eat? Please help!!!!

is the brine live?
also, you might want to add some dither fish...maybe a few chromis or wrasses(braver fish) the regal might not know how to eat from the water column and if it sees other fish doing it then maybe it'll try.

good luck, keep us posted...i love regals.

Try someitnhg that doesn't float, hang around in the water column, It likely doesn't believe flake food to be anything edible, and is waiting for you to feed it 'normal' (for a regal) food. Bits of clam for example

Fresh clams or mussels are irresistable and have provided nutrition for regals for me in the transition period. The only issue would be if there is competition for the food, which is why I and many other people recommend isolating tough feeders like this initially... and I don't mean isolation in a 10 gallon sterile hospital tank with a PVC pipe to be clear...

Good luck. The key is to get them calories while they are adapting to prepared foods... Again clams and mussels usually do the trick...

Third the motion on the live clams/mussels. Once they are crunching those then you can wean him to the other foods

Thanks for everyone's input and advices.

Question...I have 2 clams in my tank...a Crocea and Deresa. If I put a fresh clam and the Regal eats it. Will it eventually eat my Crocea and Deresa?

I've done this with multiple regals and it did not lead to any clam nipping...

Let us know how it goes...

Thanks Copps....I've been to your place once, but you may not remembered. This was the reason why I wanted the Regal.:-) It's pouring rain outside now. Once it stop, I'll go to the grocery and try a clam/mussel. Does it have to be fresh or it can be frozen?

Regal has come out of hidding "somewhat". Each time I come to the tank it goes behing the rock towards the back.

Clam...I got some today and left it on a half shell on the sand. First thing that came over were my obsoleta snails and the cleaner shrimps. Then, the Regal came over. It picks on it, but I don't think that any of the clam actually went in its mouth/belly.:-( More like its glazing it. I left the clam in the tank since 2PM and the entire clam is still there now at 10PM.

Should I do someting else to the clam other than just leaving it as is after I've open it in half?

I got these clam from the same store that I bought the Regal from. The owner said that the Regal used to eat 2 clams each day. I'm really worry now......

What the owner said the regal did before you got it and what it actually did is two different things. Allways ask to see for yourself. However, if the owner is telling the truth, I would'nt worry too much. The move could have caused a hunger strike.

I think that the owner is honest....I hope for my sake.:-)

Owner said that he feed the Regal clams and slowly fed it Mysis. When I bought I did see the Regal ate some Mysis, but it wasn't much....a shrimp here and there. Since it ate my zoas after I place him in my tank I wonder if that may have change his eating habits.

He is probably still settling in to his new routine. I would continue to offer the clams as they seem to be the best bet and try some other foods as well to see if it sparks his interest. Mine had no interest in stuff in the water column at all at first. But as he watched all the other guys in the tank he learned and is now eating mysis. I really think he will eat the clams just make sure they are available and fresh if you can get them

Unfortunately, the Regal is my only fish for now. I was afraid to add more fish in becuase of his slow appetite and that all the other fish(es) will eat all the food before the Regal could get any.

I'd think about adding a smaller fish. As bspete said, he might learn a thing or two from it. Is this a newer tank? Is there stuff on the rock that he could pick?

It's a 3x2x2 tank. Due to the size of the tank I've limited my fish list to only...Regal, Golden angel, Powder Blue Tang, Black Tang, and a Mysteri Wrasse. I don't want to buy other fish(es) then have to take them out.

I bought a PDB today...hopefully this will help. Will keep everyone posted. In the meantime, you guys can keep your fingers cross for me as well.:-)
