Regal Angel Primer

Sorry, a 40 gallon breeder should be perfect! The tank looked much smaller in the one picture I was looking at.
Good luck with him. Getting him eating is the key. I nursed a tank full of sick fish (including a regal) through some type of outbreak. The regal looked really bad but thankfully never stopped eating and ended up making a full recovery. Here is a video of him before rebounding.

Yea my RA is big. probably 5.5in or a little bigger. Was supposed to be 4-5. Makes the tank look small.

What did you determine was the disease on your RA? Lymphocystis? Any recent photos videos?

I think it was a combination of flukes, ich and flukes! I will try an remember to creat another video tonight. The only fish I lost was a potters angel and done anthias.

Just got home to find my regal laying on the bottom about dead. Last night just before lights out I noticed the respirations increased. No scratching or twitching noted. I thought it might be flukes so I did a FW dip. It seemed to perk the fish up for half an hour but it is back laying on the bottom with heavy rapid respirations. :sad1: :sad2:

Very sorry to hear this - hopefully he/she makes a recovery.

As far as getting mine to feed. I overfed the bejesus out of the tank. I did a cube of mysis in the mornings with garlic, and then a cube of brine with garlic in the evening. The next day I added some red algae sheets, and continued with the mysis/brine combo. On day 3, I started to mix some New Era pellets in there as well. On day 4, I noticed he started picking at some of the brine. He will not - at the moment - eat the Mysis. I have now slowed the feeding to one cube of brine a day, and hope to spread it out to every other day.

He is in a 120G (4'x2'x2') and has adapted well (I think). He does swim quite funny, he is often turning to his sides, or putting his face almost straight up.

Mine died. I think it was velvet.

So you did not QT?

Sorry to hear this.

I did not QT my two 3" blue bellies. All they got was a formalin dip. But those two had been at the store for 3 weeks in some medication (I suppose copper since they came down with some Lymphocystis).

The tiny one that died after only a week also looked like he had something with its gills. Due to its small size I didn't give him a formalin dip. Also, he had just arrived at the store when I picked him up

The respiratory issue seems to be quite common with regals. I've seen it with several now. Not sure what it is, but by the time you see it they go downhill quickly.
With a fresh percula that had similar symptoms Chloroquine Phosphate fixed it within a day. This could point towards velvet.

Darn bud, I'm very sorry to hear about this. I was hoping for a different outcome. Take heart though. Learn from this experience and DON'T GIVE UP.

I personally think LA is the best way to go when buying a regal. A two week guarantee, and if it dies, they give you your money back. What a bummer.

Curious! Why do you think it was velvet? How long did you think it had velvet before you took action. What action did you take?

Some flashing/scratching, last couple days rapid respirations mild lethargy, hiding more, no white spots like ich except on white spot that was on the fish's eye when I got it and still there when it died, not sucking air at surface, laying on bottom, a couple hours later dead. The reparations were very labored and rapid in the last couple hours. It was very rapid death like velvet. When I found fish laying on bottom, I did a FW dip incase of flukes. Fish perked up slightly for about 30 min. There were no flukes found in the FW after the dip. The fish did not die of starvation, as it was not that thin.

Yea LADD has a good warranty and I have had the the best luck with them. Their shipping cost is low but their fish prices are higher. Only disease I have got from them is ich and I can deal with that.

I think I am going to give Regals a brake for now.

It have been 14 months si Fe I got mine (06/2014). He is fat but not growing too fast. Only .5 inches longer than my Male Flame angel. My flame is one of the biggest flame angel I ever seen

My two blue bellies are doing fine.
One of them seems to have discovered his taste for my green palys. I haven't caught him in the act, but the ones in the low part of the tank are now always closed and the ones higher up are at best half open with next to no tentacle extension. Before they were thriving.

Last Saturday I saw some Indonesian yellow bellies. They had just arrived a few hours earlier.
One was about 5 to 6 inches and seemed to be in perfect condition. Very alert and picking all over on the decoration. The other one had the perfect size of 3 to 4 inches but was leaning against the glass, unresponsive and breathing heavily.

While I'm still looking for 2 nice 3 to 4 inch Red Sea regals I'm not in a hurry and rather wait for some to show up here than taking the risk of buying a fish unseen via mail order.

I had mine yellow belly 5 months ago. Got it to eat flake, blackworms frozen and mysis. A few weeks ago stopped eating mysis then blackworms. But still eats flakes. Now it starts eating frozen mysis again although with less gusto. It almost seems it's relearning. Still trying to get it to eat other food as well. A difficult fish for sure even after 5 months in captivity.

Have you tried LRS Reef Frenzy?
