Regal Angel Primer

I have frogspawn in my tank and no problem

For now!
One day they discover a certain coral is tasty and that was that...

I've seen it a few times now that regal angels discover a new thing they like to snack on, especially with juveniles.

He have been in my tank for 2 years. No problem. I feed my tank well and he is as fat as a Regal can be. I don't expect any problem. There is also a lot of sponges in my large tank. I think he will not pick on something unnatural for him

I lost my South Asia Yellow Belly on day 15, although it had not eaten prepared foods this tank is loaded with copods, amphlipods, and algae. It still looked very fat and in good shape when I took it out of the tank. The fish came from Quality Marine through my LFS, I wonder how everyone else has fared recently with there Yellow Bellys coming from LA/DD and Quality Marine? All my Redsea Regals coming from QM have always done very well, even the one that took 4 weeks to start eating.

He has been eating since the second day, but we are at only day 17. I always figure 30 days before feeling confident

Sorry to hear about your regal Alton. My regal came from Quality Marine. Other than flukes she came in clean. My LFS gets all their regals from them and has had great success with QM.

Carrots was yours one of the recent Regals offered up by QM? And was it Red Sea? Most of my fish have come from QM in the past with great success, but here recently I have issues with a previous Blueface and now this Regal.

My Maldivian from DD just died on Saturday (Day 8 in QT.) He was eating up to the day before and seemed to be doing fine otherwise. Was really hoping he would work out. :sad1:

Quality Marine

Quality Marine

I have an Indian Ocean Regal from Q.M. I have an order in for small 2.5-3" Red Sea but keep being told that there are only 5-6" available. Most Indian Ocean are coming into my LFS (Aqua Studios in Millburn NJ) from Q.M. around 4'' size.

Sorry for your loss. Do you think its death was cyanide related?

The issue with the small ones is that they usually hide in the rocks.
So the catchers either need to trick them to come out or use narcotics (usually cyanide).

I am not sure, I wish they would develop or use the existing test for it? What was strange was how many 2 1/2" to 4" Yellow belly non redsea regal's with the juvenile spot came on the market just recently

5 to 6" are almost always available through my LFS, Michael at NYAquatics gets the smaller ones in sometimes, the last one went for $299 plus shipping.

Sorry to hear of another regal passing. No symptoms, just up and died in QT? Using any meds. that might have contributed to his death?

Is there a test to tell if a fish was caught with cyanide?
How would that work and would it be available to everyone?

The conundrum is that the juveniles clearly adopt better to captivity, yet are largely caught with cyanide which may kill them later down the road.
It seems this bad habit has by now also spread to the Maldives.

The issue with cyanide is that it can kill a fish instantly, within a couple of weeks or after a couple of months, maybe even years later - it all depends on the dosage the fish got and if they did a detox afterwards or just shipped it off without.

I thought at one time there was an article about testing the water the fish came in with? I will see if I can find it.
