Nice!
Where are they from?
I don't see much issues with them bonding as both seem to be mature.
My Sumatra Regals are still a good while away from maturity. So far the larger one has more female characteristics than the smaller one. They get along, but are still far away from being a bonded pair.
Thomas,
I was going to get the juvies trio from iBluewater but after I got back from my Labor Day trip, the supplier told me two of them didn't make it in his tank.
That same week, Pacific Island Aquatics got a batch of 5 red sea regal. I keep watching and watching until he sent me a video of the regal eating live blackworms. I took the chance. The new fish has almost identical pattern including the same misbar on her right side. It also has very short gill spine which I'm pretty sure a female. If not, it will become a female as my existing one fill spine is 3times longer. The pictures don't show it but when she flares, her body shape is more rounded. Although my male is pretty round as well. It's labeled as Red Sea and I definitely paid the red sea price. It's more orange than my existing one(which I think it's a Sumatra). But I don't really care if it's Red Sea or not as long as I get a healthy one that will eat.
When I got the new fish, I placed him in the acclimation in the display tank and the existing regal came charging at it right away and was banging on the acclimation box. It was going berserk! The aggression slowly died down and by the 3rd day, I was able to allow the existing regal into the acclimation box to get him to show the new regal how to eat as long as there's food. I was feeding the new regal with live clams, mussels, mysis, spirulina brine, Reef Frenzy, cylopeeze, flakes, pellets, and live blackworms. Anything that I can think of to get her to eat. It slowly started to eat the 2nd day but only on food that is clipped to the clipper. In other words, it didn't know how to eat free-floating food. As time goes by, its appetite got better and better and when it started to eat food in the water column, I knew it's soon time to release her.
When I released her the 7th day, she went toward the male right away and they were swimming together for awhile until the male decided it was enough and chased her into a crevice.
The female is pretty daring. It swims in the water column during the day and from time to time, it goes into the male's cave! when the male is out of the cave of course. But I thought that got some balls for doing that. They don't sleep in the same cave yet. But that is something I would like to see. I'm very optimistic about the new regal but will have to watch her closely as I know she's not 100% adapted to the tank. There's a little boo boo on for top fin(came this way) that I'm a little concern about. But angels are very robust once it starts to eat.
