Wow Ted- I'd say that's pretty good growth. Do you think it's due to tank size or food? Any advice on how to get a captive regal angel to attain a size closer to a wild adult?

Thanks, she has really done a nice job!
The food def helps but I think tank size plays a much greater role in a fishes overall growth...lol, it might be time to start the pool conversion...
I think its the size too. Baby fish grow tremendously... buying a 5" regal.... dont expect a doubling in size... regardless of tank size. That six bar angel in France isn't even "max" size....
Boy, its been a long time since I have been on the forums!! Looks like most regals are growing pretty slow. Mine is now 5 years old and only 4.5 to maybe 4.75 inches. It is almost like a large dwarf angel. Its not much bigger than my potters angel. The tank is 240 gallons but does not have the swimming room I wish due to coral growth. The angel still eats reasonably well but not a pig by any means. I will try to take a picture later today. Minh, I have to come down to the coast! I wasn't even aware you have set up a large tank again!
I think either Indo-Pacific or the Red Sea Regal Angel are beautiful. Does cost quite a bit more if you want one from the Red Sea.
Regardign growth rate, mine in a 320 gal tank, is fat and happy, eats well but did not grow very much. He is still slightly bigger than my Male Flame Angel (a medium-large flame angel)
I guess I am a cheap skate. I got a Indo-Pacific Regal angel (non Red Sea) and a Indo-Pacific Harlequin Tusk (non Autralia). I love them both. My favorite fishes in the tank.
Mine is also IP. Both IP and Red Sea regals are beautiful. Don't lat that influence you if you fine a healthy one. The Red Sea regals seem to have a bolder yellow. I bought mine from Live Aquaria years ago.
Thanks. Looking at the Regal today I notice that he is about 1 inch larger than my male Flame. A few months ago he was only slightly larger than the Flame (1/2 inch or so). This mean that he must grow at least 1/2 inch. Without specific references like this I would never guess that he grew. He certainly fat and healthy
