Reid's 120g Oceanic Tech Build

I love the idea of a drain that can be connected to a garden hose...can you share how you went about piecing that together?...thinking about adding something similar to my setup that is in the build process

It's going to take a few days to fill this thing up. Tank = big. RODI = slow. :(

It took me about 2-3 days to fill up my 120g using 45 gallon brute containers.

It's really very easy. I used 1" outer diameter pipe for the drain plumbing, which fits inside all of the valves as you glue everything together. All you need to do is get a piece that converts 1" PVC pipe to Female 1/2" NPT (Pipe Threaded), and glue it into your last valve. It will allow you to screw in a brass pipe threaded piece with a 1/2" male NPT on one side, and with the male hose connection on the other side. Use teflon tape when you do this to ensure a tight seal. Attach a hose with a good gasket to the output, and you should have no problems.

I found both pieces at Lowes.

2-3 days??? I must mentally prepare.

I'm supposed to have a 100 gpd membrane on my RO/DI, but I also don't have enough water pressure to get optimum performance (I have about 40 PSI, 60 PSI is recommended). Also, I left the RO/DI machine running overnight and let it shut off with a float valve sometime in the night. You could do it much faster depending on your RO/DI setup and if you can pump it straight into the tank.

The other shocking thing is how much salt you use. I had to use almost an entire bucket of Reef Crystals to get it up to 1.026.

I always thought Oceanic and AGA were kind of similar, but you're tank looks fantastic! That top trim is going to cut down on so much splashing, especially if you try out a wave of any sort.

Congratulations! You've joined the wet fish tank club!

Thanks! I love that rim. It's already paying dividends as I try to adjust my Tunze's.

On that front, Padrino.. My Tunze's are making some noise, but not a ton. It's enough that I'm hoping that it goes away as the pumps break in.

There is a lot of flow, and I am getting some sand blowing, but I think I will be able to handle it as I adjust the positioning and the power levels on the multicontroller.

Still not sure if I am happy with it. I do like th amount of swimming space / grow-in room for corals... but it just doesn't have much of a 'wow' factor, in my opinion.

Any opinions?

Reid beautiful tank, can't wait to see it filled in with fish and corals. Perhaps I missed it earlier, were you worried about voiding the warranty by not using the tech stand? I have been considering a 120 tech but did not want to use the stand. The complete tank/stand is very $$$.
