Rembee's 90 gal. slow build....

very nice, better than i could ever do.

your a chop saw master.....lol

my cuts kept coming out all jacked up...i can always get one corner perfect, but the other is a different story...

great stain job too...

Thanks guys for all your kind words...

I've always heard that poplar doesn't really take stain well because of it's natural pigments... apparently this is not the case. It looks really good.

Reeffreak25....poplar is hard to work with sometimes as far as the staining goes. But.... if you apply min-wax wood conditioner to the wood first then stain within 2 hours of applying the conditioner, the stain will take evenly to the wood. Even if it is different types of wood. Such as my trim molding. All my trim molding is pine.

Reefahholic....you need to get a good miter saw....lol. All my wood was cut on a table saw and/or a radial arm miter saw. Depending on the type of cut I needed.

And thanks for the kind words also.

This forum and people like you guy's are part of the reasons that make this hobby a pleasure to do. IMO.

Thanks for the info. I might try staining two pieces of poplar, one treated with wood conditioner and one not, and see what the outcome is.

Well....I finished staining and sealing the canopy today. Now I have to get my T5 lighting installed on the tray and then the light tray and draw slides installed into the canopy. Hopefully I will be able to get this done by the end of next week. Here are some pics of the canopy, tank and stand.

Update

Well, it's been a few weeks since I last posted any new pics. Since then I got my T5 retro lighting system in and installed it. I also got some glass cut for my sump and have installed that too. I'm starting to see day light at the end of the tunnel now as far as getting this baby inside my house and up and running. But I knew that this project would be a slow build and I don't mind taking my time and doing it right. My patience have paid off so far and I'm very pleased at the out come thus far.

Now for the pics......

Wow! Missed this thread until now! Beautiful craftsmanship on the cabinetry and your electric skills are pretty darned good too! Really an impressive build. I'll be following along!

Here is my old 45 gal. tank that I'm going to use as my sump. I had the 1/4" glass cut at a local glass shop for my baffles. The glass shop did a really nice job cutting the pieces to the exact size that I needed.

Today I got all my plumbing finished and gave it a test run. Woohooo.....no leaks!!....lol. I let it run all day. My wife and I were amazed at how quite it was. The Glass-Holes 700gph overflow is very quite. I'm am very pleased and so is the wife...lol. Here are some pics of the plumbing....

Tomorrow I will empty it, break it down and hopefully be able to get it in the house and get it ready for salt water. I'm getting so close now I can taste it...lol. It's been 4 long months since the start of this build but it has all been worth it!

Update

Well....the stand and tank has finally made their way into the house and set up! The system has been up, running and cycling now for the past 8 days. After spending most of the 1st day aqua scaping the BRS "Reef Saver" dry rock, I then added 3 bags of dry CaribaSea Agronite sand and 20 lbs of Live Agronite sand giving me a 4" sand bed. I also added a bag of Aruba Shells to the first 2" of the sand bed. Then I added the other 2" of sand. I threw a whole tail of a raw shrimp into the sump area and starting dosing MB-7 to help my cycle along. Here are some pics....

Wow! This looks like it is going to be a great build. Wish I had your woodworking skills. I can't wait to see how this progresses. Thanks for posting all of the pictures. You are giving me some great ideas!

That's what this is all about Mike. To give back what I can. I have been coming to this forum for the past 5 years reading and researching til my eye's were bugging out of my head....lol. I have learned so much from others on this forum that my dream is now a reality. And thanks for your kind words.

Cycle question?

Cycle question?

I just got finished checking my water parameters.
They are as follow,

Amm - < .25
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 10
PH - 8.07
Temp - 78.6

I have been cycling with a raw shrimp tail and dosing with MB-7 for the past 8 days. I have not seen an ammonia spike yet nor have I seen my nitrites rise yet. But my nitrates have jumped up to 10 ppm today from 0 ppm yesterday. Could this be due to the MB-7? I have been testing everyday so far. Could I have missed the Amm. spike?

Are you using just the tail of the shrimp? I don't use any chemicals when I cycle a tank. I would rather use that money on other stuff. I've ways had good results with using a whole shrimp in a mesh bag, or sticking a piece of uncured liverock in the tank and letting the die off create a cycle.

The tail of the shrimp came off of a 16 count shrimp which is a pretty big shrimp. The 16 count means 16 shrimp to the pound for those of you who were wondering...lol. And the MB-7 is not really a chemical. It is a beneficial bacteria that aids in the cycling process.
