Removing Sand in process of cleaning

Kind of a stupid question but would it not be wise to re-add sand that is sucked up after normal maintenance i.e. cleaning sand bed of detritus/cyno etc.

I don't want to stir everything up and help any algae spread because of re-adding it but I've grown tired of just throwing the stuff away that gets sucked up as it adds up over time.

My bed is pretty shallow 1-1.5 inches certainly not a DSB.

Thoughts?

I do it all the time. I take any sand that's left in the bottom of the bucket and pour off the dirty water, rinse it with fresh saltwater until it's clean and put it right back in the tank. It's such a small amount that it doesn't impact the tank in any way.

I always siphoned out about two cups of sand on each water change and swirled it around and drained the dirty water and readded the sand. Worked great fro removing detrious and cleaning the sand.
