Replacing Power Compacts

I was wrestling with my power compact bulb trying to disconnect it from the cord and finally had to take a screwdriver to pry the endcap from the bulb. Is there a trick to disconnecting power compacts or did I discover it? The endcap "locks" over the small bumbs on the bulbs and it seems the only way to disconnect them is to use the screwdriver. Any tips would be appreciated.

Also are power compact cords with endcaps universal (especially the end that plugs into the ballast)? The endcap for one of my bulbs has fallen apart and I need a new one.

Thx!

Remove the far end of the bulb(away from endcap) from the retaining clips- then the bulb will come right out. Knowing the wattage and # of pins would help to be more exact- but that is the most common one.

Thx for the reply.

It is a 96 watt actinic 03 square pin (4 pins) purchased from Marine Depot, product code #PC1964.

Hope this helps

When I had those lights, I would just hold the square part of the end cap and wiggle it back and forth to slowly work the light out.

I had similar problems, in the process I destroyed a couple endcaps. I've had no issues since using di-electric grease to lube the contact pins before I put the new bulb in. You can get it at any hardware place. It also helped with the tough to remove bulbs in my dining room light fixture.
