Resurrection

And my latest invention. Keep in mind, I do NOT DIY. I'm very handy but a TERRIBLE fabricator.

Got tired of all my NLS pellets hitting the water and making a B-line for the overflow. Magnet is left over from an old power head.

Thanks, mine is on an auto feeder so I'm not home when it feeds them at noon and 5pm so I needed something to keep the pellets in play instead of at least half of them heading over the falls

Just a quick update:

The tank is doing well, as expected I am battling some cyano and other dino like algae's that are likely coming from the rock leaching P04 from the 2 years that the tank ran with no skimmer or maintenance. I had debated replacing the rock but I have such a wide spread diversity of sponges and good things happening that has grown over the past 8 years I didn't want to loose the benefits of a mature tank. Hopefully I don't regret that decision.

Even with that, my Hanna shows zero P04 (I realize the P04 is locked in the algae) and the frags that I've gotten have shown growth. I'd like some more color from the acros (montis are coloring up) but the issue is I think a sterile tank. The abundance of water changes, heavy skimming and MB7 every couple of days to get ahead of the dinos and cyano have stripped the water. I have some acropower aminos that I could add but I'm afraid of adding to the cyano and dino cycle. So unless it looks like I'm going to lose them my plan is to just stay the course until this mini cycle is over and I can get my rocks to stop leaching

Charles,
Things looking great man, as far as cyano goes, I would simply get live bacteria and dose, the cyano will break quickly. I use MB7 FWIW. Addition of it made my cyano disappear in like a week or less. Just make sure your DKH is lower than 8.5 :)

I meant to post that, I have MB7 and I'm a huge fan of it. Used it for years on my old tank and it made a huge difference. Especially while running bio pellets.

I'm dosing two cap fulls every 2 or 3 days. I finally got my alk down to 8.4 last week. Reef salts are killing me with their 12 dkh when I have little to no bio load to soak it up and I'm doing frequent water changes.

Charles, FWIW, I choose a salt that locks me into the desired alk, I can really care less about all the others, as long as the alk is close to my level, I can make up the difference in weekly testing, not that I do water changes, lol... I do however use BW Neo Salts, they are pretty close to my levels as far as alk goes, like 7.4, usually I have to make zero adjustments to my automated 2 part. I am sure you have some salt to burn through, but as time goes by, maybe choose Red Sea, not the pro, it dials in a 7 ish alk, a great level if you run ULNS, IMO... Keep up the great work man!!!

I'll have to check that out. I have a couple boxes of reef crystals and 3 more buckets of RSCP that I have to get through. When I buy salt I typically wait for a nice sale and buy like 10 buckets or more.

And a frag tank in the garage plumbed to my DT. You know, for all those frags I don't have!!

LOL. I have zero need for this right now but a local reefer (offdahook, super guy) had a deal I couldn't say no to. It was so good I was even able to convince the lady figure to go along with it.

Also picked up an Apex Jr but haven't played with it yet. Too busy plumbing in the frag tank and getting it running

Bought a cheapo Chinese LED (Mars Aqua I think) to hang over it.

After getting the frag tank I realized it would require adding a feed pump from my sump. I don't like submerged pumps so I bought this today to hook to my snapper return. It will plumb to my bio pellet reactor and the frag tank. After that I will only have one submerged pump in my entire system (the skimmer).

I had also bought the Jebao DP4 to try it out but didn't like it and sent it back. Got in two Drew's Dosers from BRS this week. I'll hook them up once demand requires it.

Picked up an MP40WES today for the frag tank. Should have that in next week along with the manifold and LED fixture so I can get the frag tank up and running.

Manifold built. Hopefully bye bye pumps in my sump! Quick disconnects for maintenance.

Quick update. I got the manifold installed on my return and the Frag tank is up and running with the MP40.

Now that I'm stealing so much flow from my return for the bio pellet reactor and frag tank I'm not thrilled with the flow going to the main tank. I like high turnover for detritus removal so I just ordered a Reeflo Super Dart Gold for my return to replace my Reeflo Snapper.

Should have my LED fixture in today for the frag tank, I'll post some as soon as I get it on.
