Resurrection

Charles,
Congrats on the come-back, looking forward to seeing that tank in full glory again :)

Thanks Perry, I got 3 frags from WWC today and hoping they do well. I think my alk is too high for it to survive (14dkh :/ ). All these water changes with RC have had to high of alk.

Well assuming test kits are actually correct. I would suggest switching to just IO instead of RC, for both lowering the current stats (although I think it should be ok) and later on to prevent swings. Not that I use either much lol, it's been months since my last water change. Tried to do one few weeks ago, but after mixing water was too cloudy (too much CA or Alk so stuff precipitated) so I never used it in the main tank and just did a water change on the frag system instead.

Where are the pictures ! in the thread! I just have to scroll up... figures !

Yea I have a few buckets of Red Sea Coral Pro left over and it seems to have a lower alk so I've been using that.

I need a camera, my iPhone hates the blue lights

I don't have iPhone, but looks like it may be possible to set custom white balance with third party applications. Not sure how much of the Kelvin scale you get with that, but if it's what you usually get or even better if you can just take a picture of something that should be white and then use that image for custom white balance, you may be able to take good color pictures of the tank with the iPhone, of course still won't be DSLR quality, but at least not a blue mess :)

Let's try with the main lights on.

You can see I'm still dealing with P04 although I'm reading .04 this morning. My alk is still too high at 12

I'm thinking about removing the sand, I feel like it just traps nutrients in it at this point. algae/bacteria always is dusting on top of it ><

I'm just not sure how much would pistol shrimp like that o.O He seems to be very keen on digging all the time lol

I was just talking to Ed about the same thing. He had an unexplained crash after 4 years on a mature reef.

I'm suspicious of sand beds and all the "old tank syndrome" stories I've heard and read had sand beds in them. I feel like they can become nutrient sponges and just load up and one day let out some weird stuff.

My tank was DSB, and I was able to go BB without removing the rock. But it was easier for me because my rocks are huge. That whole rock scape consists of 5 live rocks total. They're huge.

Yep I also have 5 big rock islands, but unfortunately it is all sitting on eggcrate so will have to pull them out for a minute still to get the crate out. Not a big deal, but just added annoyance lol

Yea that's a project that you'll want a couple of guys to help out with (will work for frags! LOL)

What I also love is being able to crank up my power heads and point them where ever I feel like. Two of my MP40's are on the back wall at the very bottom of the tank behind the rock scape blowing under all my rocks keeping detritus off the bottom of the tank and out from under rocks. The other two are on the back wall high up moving the open tank areas.

Works out great from a nutrient export and random flow standard.

Nah, just did it. Did not take the sand out yet. But took the lights and canopy off, took out few big rocks at a time, and pulled out the eggcrate pieces. Knocked few corals of the rocks (well I attach them to small rocks and then to the big rock, so small rocks sometimes come off), but other than that didn't damage any colonies it seems.

I'm sure there will be now a cycle of sorts from all the garbage I stirred up lol, but what else is new. Will start siphoning out the sand over the next few days.

Should be fine, I'd run some carbon to take care of anything weird or extra nutrients

Quick update, replaced all my T5 bulbs. Have 16 frags of Sps so far. A long way to go still
