Return pump for 220G

What size of a return pump for a 220G DT with a 125G sump? The sump will be located in the basement with approx 13-16 ft of head. The DT has 1 centre overflow box with max flow of 2500GPH.

Any recommendations? It doesn't necessarily have to be quiet, cost isn't an issue as long as it's reputable brand and a reasonable price and has a low power draw.

I was looking into the Vortech L1, but I don't think she'll have enough juice.

look into deepwater aquatics dc pumps. I been running multiple dc8 for over a year with no issues and they move a lot of water, barely use any power comparably.

I'm slowly switching every pump to these style as I replace old ones. Can't say enough good about them.

I have a DC8 that pumps from a basement sump to my 125, I use one notch below the top setting. Theres 7 settings on the controller. Its about 10 feet straight up, then almost 6 feet horizontal through 1.5 inch pvc the whole way.

The pumps are so cheap you can buy a backup pump to have on hand and still save over what most reefers pay for pumps. I've never had to use the backup I bought. Just decided to use it for my mixing/water change setup.

Your not gonna get everything on your check list above..

I recommend Reeflow i would check them out on BRS But you can find a better price.. They can handle the head pressure and have the gph rate your looking for at that distance.. anything low power will not do it or will fail because of being over worked..
I used a hammer head until i relocated my sump just below the tank but still in the basement.. i went from 20feet head pressure to 12 ...

there are some other pumps as well in the same class

Good Luck

Thanks for the quick replies, what about return size piping 1" or 1.5"?

1 1/2 for sure...

and if you do have bends i would segments of spa flex instead of elbows. You can connect it with two couplings on each end. I heat it and form a big sweeping elbow or what ever angle you need to work up there the wall / floor

I would get a laguna, askoll or Mag if you need submersible. They are reliable and the extra wattage that they need will give you a bit of heat which nearly any big tank will need.

Ampmaster all the way for external. They have a fraction of the failures of Reeflo pumps and have lifetime seals for saltwater. They all use about the same wattage for the same application - there are no savings here regardless of what a manufacturer advertises. A pressure pump will take more wattage - something like an Iwaki or Blueline are super reliable, but will draw more watts.

I used two different DC pumps and neither made it a year... back to reliable pumps for me. They were OK, but did use more wattage than advertised with head pressure.

You won't be able to flow too much with a single 1.5" return. I have almost the same head (12 feet and a chiller body) and the same drain. I am using a Laguna 2900. I am in colorado and really need the heat, so the extra wattage is aok with me.

Go high end DC pumps like red dragon or abyzz pumps. Those are real workhorse.
