Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

I got him locally.. He and all his brothers & sisters ate like hogs at the store.. I couldn't believe my eyes. That is the only reason I took a chance spending the money I did on this fish.. IMHO, I would not purchase this fish on-line. Due to their sensitivity, you wante to see them eat (and something other than nori or live brine). In addition, I wouldn't want fedex or UPs to stress them any more than they were on their trip over... Keep looking. One will pop-up.

Jon,
You are the man. I have always wanted an achilles and it is the main reason ill be upgrading to probably a 330. I too have heard some horror stories with them as they don't live long in an aquarium but ive seen it done. Its just hard to keep them apparently But thats awesome you have one. I can't wait for the day.

Nice work on the camera. I bought the T1I last year . Good camera.

Pics look good. keep them coming my man

I don't feel like I'm out of the woods with him yet. They typically will always get ich and it's not recommended to quarantine Achilles due to their sensitivity. So, mine has spots now, but he continues to get fatter and it does not seem to affect his behavior. He looks better by the day.. The great thing is that none of the other fish seem to be affected.. not even my Hippo who is an ich magnet. The ozone i'm running may be helping the situation.

More shots from the new Cam

Poor little wrasse found his way into my Tunze 6100 the other day when the feed time was on and got mangled. He was actually out an d about today. I hope he will recover fully. I'm sure the chromis that he chases constantly were not that sympathetic..

nice work banks....two thumbs up.

I think your tank is really gonna shine in a year when all those beauti frags grow up.

Thanks Darryl :)

Some of my frags are going on 10 months or more in my tank and are taking forever to grow otside of encrusting! Others have really taken off. I'm thinking about starting a Kalk drip to get my Ph (typically rides between 7.8 at night and 8.1 in the day) up a bit to help with growth. I'm a little concerned about using Kalk in fear of raising my alkalinity too high in a tank that I'mcarbon dosing. STN, burnt tips, etc.

I think your colors are great and everything looks really healthy. All it takes is some time and I wouldn't mess with what is working for you. My opinion anyway. Also kalk dosing is somewhat hard to judge how much ca and alk you are getting since it is dependant on evaporation and if the kalkwasswer solution is fully saturated. You would have to test a bunch to figure out how to adjust your ca and alk dosing.....and there would be a potential for your params to get out of wack.

Everyone has some SPS that have stagnant growth or are just too busy laying down a base to do any vertical growth but then all of a sudden you can get a growth spurt and things start moving. If you have an acro that is really stagnant I have trimmed the tips before to encourage growth. Personally I have had acros stay stagnant for a year and then all of a sudden they just explode. Not sure why.

Besides you have some beautiful large corals in there as well. Stay the course man.

All very good point Darryl. Thank you for your suggestions. I tend to agree with you on all.

Here is the purple mille that I wrote about a few posts back that was being attacked by AEFW.. Notice how it is coming back in green. A picture is worth thousand words.. Has anyone seen anything like this before??

Nice job bro....

regarding dosing kalk.... i am thinking to switch to FM balling light method to dose ca/mg/alk with my Profilux.. I have done some readings and talk to some dudes they all pretty happy with stability

Your thoughts buddy?

Thanks Mike I'm seeing a lot of nice tanks with the Balling method. I like the fact that you get less impurities vs using a CR. Also, it's always nice to try something new in this hobby to keep things from getting boring. Right now, I'm using my profilux to dose carbon source, strontium and mg. I may start a simple kalk trip just to raise ph a bit, but still not sure due to the same reason that DVanacker mentions above. My Alk level is very consant right now and I don't want to do anything to throw it out of wack. The only supporting factor is that, the most beautiful tanks that I have ever seen in person were all dripping kalk...

On the other side, your tank looks amazing right now. A CR reactor is a set it and forget it method.... At least for a few months anyway...

I agree on CARX, but....since my corals is getting bigger and bigger i am having hard time to keep up with my alk.. Effluent water from CArx is very strong..so... i am looking into balling:)
i did try kalk many years ago and almost kill my tank:) no more kalk for me:))

Wow.. I guess it may be a decent option for you then. it's the nightmare stories about kalk doing that scare the &^% out of me. Thankfully, I have all you guys to learn from.

OK, here are my last pics for a while.. This camera has me picture happy! Anyway, these are low light dusk/dawn shots.
