Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

i think po4 level in the rage, colors looks vibrant. how often you clean glass?

Yeah, I'm prettysure it is.. I have to clean my glass at least once a week. Very rarely do I have to do it twice in a 7 day period...

I just wanted to say BRAVO ! What an amazing tank :eek2: Could you post pictures of how you have your air pump/air dryer/ ozone unit/ into your skimmer setup?
Thanks,
Steve

Thank you Steve. Cheers & welcome aboard.. Getting that picture for you would be a little tough. I don't use an air dryer.. Also, the line from my ozone is submerged in my sump and connects directly to a special port located on the volute of my skimmer pump.. Most newer gen BK skimmers have this port on the pump volute.. I do force the air through my skimmer with a smalll air pump, from there, the outlet port of my Ozotech is connected directly to the skimmer via 03 safe tubing.. Hope that give you a good visual.

Always enjoy catching up on your thread.:)

You definitely get extra bravery points from me, going for the Bayer dip. It's gotta be scarey trying anything like that on a tank as nice as yours.
I like your style though. Just trying it on one colony first and see what happens. Instead of the extreme, dip everything all at once approach, I see a lot of.

How did you get an entire colony detached so you could dip it?
Wasn't it fully encrusted onto your rock by now?

Jon,
i think Po4 level is in the range, i clean mine 2 sometimes 3 times a week, but my Po4 a lil high then i like them to be.. i think i overfeed my tank.

take a look at this :

I need to grab a phosphate meter in order to get more accurate results. As soon as I stop dosing vinegar, the film on the glass grows much quicker. On the AEFWs, I've been following that thread. Fingers are crossed for some good results. Hopefully the little blue bottle folks have a trick up their sleeves! lol

Thanks for stopping through Bro! I'm still watching your tank in awe. The bug spray thing was definitely one of those nail-biting experiences for me, but I feel like so many of us are held hostage by these things. So, it gives me the courage to try something crazy every once in a while. I was not able to detach it from the rock, but it is encrusted in a way that allowed me to grab and dip it upside down without submerging the rock. So far so good.

Are all your colonies removable like that?
Are you gonna be able to do this with some of your other colonies?
Without causing an avalanche of your scape?

You've got some nice colonies that must be pretty well encrusted by now.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to do that with many of the colonies for that very reason. On the other hand, the colonies that the flat worms seem to target the most are removeable. So, between dipping all new, dipping those that I can remove and basting... hopefully, I will be able to keep them well under control. Have you had any encounters in your reef?

As far as my DT the only encounters I've ever had deal with personally have been red bugs and monti nudis. Both were over 4 years ago. They were definitely a PITA enough. My QT process has been borderline paranoia ever since. :worried:

I've only found/delt with pests in my QT so far since.

Haven't had the privilege of AEFW yet, but I have seen what it does to tanks that have. Doesn't look fun at all. Heartbreaking to see actually.

I just can't imagine how devastating this must be for you and others that have had to deal with these things.

That's awesome man.. Being paranoid when it comes to new additions is a must these days.. When I got in to the hobby in 2003, I had no idea what an AEFW was.. Nobody really talked about the quarantine of anything other than fish. I have a space in my home that I can put to better use.. I may have to suck it up and just do it.. No need for anything new to make it into my system.

I've been really fortuntate as there is something keeping them from causing mass destruction in my system.. Whether it is the army wrasses I'm building or the basting, I am unsure. Like you, I have seen tanks decimated by these things.. Makes me wonder about different species and the level of destruction that they can cause..

We're definitely on the same page here. lol.

My problem is that there is always somethng new out there that "I just gotta have".

Yah, back in '03 the big problem was red bugs. Dustin D. pretty much saved the whole hobby IMO as far as keeping acros. Today people are pretty much non-shallot about them.

Hopefully someone will do the same for AEFW soon.

Hi Jon,

Lovely looking system you have, congratulations buddy :)

The clam on the bottom left of this pictures is stunning, do you have a recent close up picture of it?

Keep up the good work,

Tony

Thanks Tony. I'm actually sitting in a meeting talking to my colleagues in the UK and looking at my tablet and saw your post. LOL. I originally got that crocea in 2003. In 2006 I broke my tank down and the clam went to a buddy of mine. When I got back into the hobby in 2009, he broke down his tank and the clam came back to me :)

I will get a good shot for you this evening and post it...

Amazing tank, I can't wait for mine to look like that someday. I have a lot of catching up to do. Nice that you got back into the hobby, sometimes you just got to do things that make you happy and bring back the memories . How long has your system been running for? 3 years? Did you start that with all sps frags?
