Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Thanks Ray! the track is "Hold Ya'" by Gyptian. When I first did the Aquascape , I didn't know what to think, but it has really grown on me as the corals fill in..

Grabthereef,

Thank you :). So far, I've been blowing off the coral and the rocks every other day together themin the water column.. I've only seen a few since te first night I discovered them. So, i want to bring the population down as much as possible before I treat the tank with Flatworm Exit. I've been reading that folks have been having success with 3x the recommended dose.. Prior to, only the red planaria type at the suggested dose seemed to die from fwexit.

Jonathan,
Tank looks great man!! you have some really nice pieces of coral in there as well. Good luck with the AEFW. No one likes them! Any idea how they got into your tank? Did you recently put a new coral in?

Good luck
Rob

No problem :). I started with vodka and I ended up running into a really bad Cyano outbreak all while dosing MB7 daily. During the outbreak, I switched to a 1 part vodka 3 part vinegar mix and switched my bacterial source to Microbe Lift's Special Blend. Cyano is gone and the tank has been doing great since switching.

Who makes this? "Microbe Lift's Special Blend" and where do you get it. I too have had some cyno issues while using MB7

Thank you Rob. I really appreciate the kind comments. The fight seems to be going OK. I've been blowing them off every other day and I am hardly noticing any these days. My theory, is that if you can keel the adults in check by blowig them into the water column, allowing the wrasses to eat them, you are in essence giving the corals a chance because I've read that the AEFWs only start munching on coral when they have reached maturity. For the two corals tht have been infected, I purchased some Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure for periodic dips.. Most of my frags were aquacultured and came from very healthy hobbyists systems. I think I got them when I added and maricultured Milli colony. I dipped it in lugols when I got it, but I don't think it was a strong enough solution. So, her I am.

The company's name is Microbe Lift. You can find it at most online retailers and some LFS. Premium Aquatics carries it and so does "thatpetplace.com". It's really good stuff made by a company that's been producing bacterial cultures for a long time. Since usig it, I have discontinued my use of MB7. It will clear your tank of Cyano in about five weeks if you help out by siphoning what you see on a daily basis. Eventually, it just stops coming back and you go on an every other week maintenance dose, which keeps the tank's bacterial population at good levels and your tank free of the red carpet. It works great for me and many others. It's time for me to order some more on Monday..

Jon,
thanks ill try and find some. I had good results with vodka and MB7 had a little bit of cyno twice but nothing that as out of control. Since ill be moving soon, i slowly came off the vodka and switched over to N/P pellets. I wanted to experiment with this as i know vodka works but requires me to dose it every day. Right now i have the NP pellets in a TLF reactor. If it works like vodka like everyone says it does, it will be better for me until i move and transfer everything to the new house. I think i will continue vodka once its all setup and back to normal. I also wanted to look into denitrators as some require the addition of vodka to them and others use sulfur beads

Rob,

I love trying new stuff.. Especially new stuff that works and is easier to use or administer.. I understand that the pellets are a bit pricey. You may want to consider a doser for your vodka. With the low cost of it versus the cost of the pellets as a carbon source, you could probably offset the price of a doser over time.. However, The pellets sound very interesting. Please keep me updated as I would love to know how they work out for you.

sweet tank jbanks, ill be following along. are you still dosing bac? how is the aefw fight going?

Oops, I forgot one part of your question.. Yes I still dose bac, but every other week using Special Blend. It seems to work out much better for the tank with a lot less work required by me.

I'm Bored :hmm3: figured I'd share some pics

Update on the BK Supermarin 250 maintaining my setup: this skimmer continues to amaze me....

Thanks Mike! Some frags have shown good growth from the beginning and others have just started to take off after 11 months. Others are still encrusting. Hopefully, they will all start to take off soon.

Yeah, some corals take long time to start.. My purple slimer took about 7 month to take of and now growths pretty fast..

I have some that haven't done anything but encrust and they were the first ones in the tank.. It's frustrating some time, but it sure is nice to see them take off when thy finally get going..
