Returning to what I love - My new 180 Rimless

Again, I have to agree with you Chris when it comes to the lopsided income. It actually works. I got a divorce a few years ago, but knowing what I know now. That's exactly how I would go about it!

What if you wife doesn't work.......what is she worth. Or if she makes less she only pays less expenses (prorated) but still has less in her bank account. What about retirement....if you are lucky enough to have a pension and she doesn't.....do you just say screw her.

Honestly if things are not fair and balanced with-in the home finances independent of who brings in the cash than it can only cause tension IMO. How ever it might work for some, if you already have a good relationship and an easy going wife.

My opinion guys anyway. If you relationship is good and you are on the same page with your spouse than sharing everything is the way to go.

Anyway you cut it though.....money is going to be the root cause of most divorces and that happens from dishonesty and generally keeping your eyes closed.

So now that we are really off topic. How about some more pics buddy.

I think you are taking this out of context. Its not about worth, its about keeping the peace. Of course if your wife doesnt work then my solution wont work. Its an indeividuals choice how to handle finances but seperating them if possible is by far the way to roll!

As to pension and retirement, my wife and I both contribute to her 401k since she has matching contributions and I dont. We have a joint savings account that we both add to when we as individuals can or want to contribute. You cant seperate everything, nor should you as marriage is still and always will be a joint effort. However, monthly bills and free spending money is usually what trips marriages up so the way my wife and I do it really helps keep the peace. Thats all.

Agreed, we should get some pics jbanks!

Point taken my friend! The way I look at it, the percentage of expenses works to the benefit of the situation because it allows both parties to feel like they have a part in things. Overall, it should make it easier on both in terms of what your expenses were prior to marriage unless there is a huge imbalance... where in that case, this idea would be moot. Love a good discussion though.... be it corals or unrelated.. However, spending in this hobby is as much a part of the hobby as water changes. LOL. I think my sig says it all! LOL...

With that, other than an interesting, but very dull looking Bottlebrush colony that I scored from a distributor at my local reef club (New York Reef Club) meeting yesterday, there's not much to update on!.. Well, to be clear the dullness came after a fairly heavy iodine treatment and a good scrubbing of the base by yours truly. When I got it, it had a very light base with blue tips. looks kinda' like an Aussie enchinata, but probably from the Indo PAC Rim. Poylps were extended this morning, so that's a good sign IMO... stay tuned..

Im completely in favor of your signature Jon. Im all for a honest relationship but if my wife knew what most of the stuff in this hobby cost there would be no relationship to be honest about. We have always had seperate checking accounts but its not a whos money is who's type of deal. I pay all the bills and find it easier to keep things in balance without having to balance my wifes stuff. Other than that its pretty much the same as a joint account. Yeah we both buy stuff that the other doesn't know about but Im the only one that get yelled at, LOL. In the end, the kids get it all anyways.

Update update update update!!!

Thanks Chris, it's great to see you posting again! I think it's fairly boring due to too many of the same colors.. So, that is an area that I need to re-arrange where I can. Here is a closer pic...

It never fails man... I'll put two corals next to each other and they color up to be the same color... everytime haha. The tank looks really good man :)

Thanks Man. I really appreciate that! I think that arranging your aquascape can be the most challenging facet in this hobby.

Beautiful! Jonathan, those corals look sweet! And that SSC is doing really well! :) Its such a pleasure to see tanks of as nice as this. :) Keep up the good work my friend.
