Review: Vortech vs. Maxi-Mod

You can buy them from Aquamart, on-line vendors like Fosters & Smith and sometimes reefsafe has one available.

I think the only thing that the mp20 lacks is the night mode, but you can dial it up and down the same way as the mp40.. I think you would be pleased with either model on the 60 hex

Can you manually adjust the flow on the mp20? I am thinking about one of those on my 60hex but it running at full 2000gph would be to much. I like the different modes you can use. Can use use the different modes at 50% of max? I am just curious how much controll you have over these.

Do you think so? It is only 2' from back to front of my tank. I was thinking a vortech would create a tornado.

What a great pump. A couple of hours after setting it up you would not believe how much crap it had already stirred up. I found a rubberband from a bag I had been floating from I dont know when. This morning I had double the PE from before. Since I have a cube tank with only 2 viewable panes it was hard getting flow around my rock structure without having a big ugly Ph right in the way. After some rearranging and getting rid of a PH or two I have great flow.I was thinking of going with 2 but it is a little too strong for my LPS.My sps love it.Thanks Dave for convincing me , I was on the fence for a while. Thanks also for the heads up on where to get one. I would highly recommend this one.

Only one way to find out ;) ... Honestly I think you will be fine, the beauty of these pumps is the ability to dial it up/down until you find that sweet spot.

You are right, I would love to try one out. It is however a lot of coin to spend on something that might not work out.

You are welcome :)

My Vortech quit working today. Came home from work, went to put it on feed mode so I could feed the fish.No power. Tried plugging it in somewhere else, still no power. Not happy.

I am happy with the mp20, but if I were to do it again, I would go with the mp40w.

You can upgrade it to a mp40 for about the same price difference if you want. :)

I have several mp40s and a mp20. Sweet pumps.

Great customer service also. I ended up having to send mine in for repair and they had it back out the same day they got it.

once I get a bigger tank I will probably upgrade it ;)
