Revive killed my hawkins! Any others I should know about?

Im +1 on coralRX I have put 50 new SPS and LPS in my tank in the past few months from different online vendors and reefclub people from around the country and haven't lost any frags and am still *fingers crossed* pest free. TOday I saw in my bowl of dip from RE 6 astrina stars and about 20 pods. Im careful when i inspect my corals but im still vermetid snail free as well. I thank coralRX for that

I have heard the smoother skin SPS don't appreciate dipping as much, so I do shorter dips of Revive on them. TMPCC is indeed more harsh, so I just use Revive.

+1
Witnessed this first hand with deepwater SPS like Hawkins, Turakis, Granulosas, etc etc. This also happened to my Nasuta; didnt kill the whole colony but wiped out 75% of it!!!

I have used a three Revive, TMPCC and Coral RX. I have to say all three will kill smooth skin across, the heavy common denominator in all three I think is the melafix. I think smooth skinned SPS are very sensitive to melafix. I dipped a Hakins in a diluted gallon of saltwater and Melafix and the next day my Hawkins was toast. I personally like Coral RX the best out of all three if I had to choose one.

I'd be very surprised to see any healthy coral die due to a dip in TLF Revive. I do 2x the recommended dosage, too.

The best way to dip it (IMO is to add per instructions) and blow on the coral with a turkey baster for about 30 seconds.

Let sit for 5 minutes and remove. Good Luck! :)

1+. Never had anything die due to Revive.

The hawkins was the first coral I have had RTN one me once it was in my tank.
I've dipped every single one of my corals in 4-8x strength and have never lost a coral. typically a capful for one of those sytrofoam coral cups.

Coincidence? Maybe. We'll just have to see what other responses we get.

I now rely on very close visual inspection helped by strong manification and very bright light, I start by putting the coral in a small container with a strong solution of interceptor then I start with visual inspection, If I see no bugs I add a normal or even slightly lighter dose of coral RX and let sit for short time watching to see if anything comes off and then reinspect, then rinse and put in tank. Interceptor is very easy on corals IME even with extended dips too bad its only good for red bugs. Dips can be very hard on them some more than others. Pests and eggs and the damage they do are usually pretty easy to see if you know what your looking for and use good light and magnification, its not like trying to see them in your tank behind glass and 18" away.

Revive

Revive

I have had the same thing happen to 2 Hawkins. Both died after dipping. Everything else was fine.

Man, I wish I had known this yesterday. I dipped a large colony of Hawkins in Coral RX.
So far no problems but I am nervous.
I do find the smooth skin corals more sensitive.

Fwiw I'll chime in. Hawkins was fine after revive dip for me. I suspect something else killed your coral. How do you know for sure it was revive? Not nearly enough info to even assume it was revive.

I've been using Bayer Insect Killer on all my sps, especially the smooth skinned 'deepwater' varieties for well over a year now. Effective on bugs. No coral losses as of yet.

Same. Couple years for me and probably a couple hundred types of coral now, may of which are sps, and never one loss or even major change to a coral.

Make sure you get the Complete Insect Killer shown here and not any of the derivatives.

Thanks for posting that. That's interesting. I would have never thought that something designed to protect corals is not as good as a bug killer from Home depot.
