Rhizotrochus: why so expensive?

I was at a LA wholesale this time last year and they had 50 or so of them in a tank. I picked 2 very nice orange ones. The rest were white. They were quite $$$. But I still love them!

I remember the ones that had at the LA wholesalers. It was about the same time they had Eye of the Seas LPS. But the ones they had at the wholesalers in LA weren't Rhizotruchus Typus. They were calling them rhizo's, but the weren't the same. You saw some etailers selling them on eb@y and stuff calling them Tiger Striped Rhizos or very similar. They were selling from $100-$300. But the tentacles on theirs were considerably shorter and they came out very rarely. Where as rhizo typus' tentacles are considerablely longer and stay out almost all the time.

So what were they? Any pictures?

So where can I get some of these illegal corals? Where is this black market?

Well if we tell you.....:D

Thst green one in the collection above is quite lovely. I am actively staying away from these corals...I just can't afford to fall in love with them, lol.

Like everything else in this hobby, give it a year to two and it will be as abundant as pulsing xenia... or so we hope, ok maybe not that abubdant but I would imagine on a scale that they will be easier to get... They are sweet looking, especially the colored ones. Look at the big "Have To Haves" below, over the past few years All of them are alot easier to come by now a days

Lords
Dendros
Micros
Duncans
Rhizotrochus
What's Next???

Unless they begin to be imported a lot, I doubt they will be any less rare than they are now. They definitely do not grow nearly as fast as anything else on your list. :)

I still imagine that after a year to two years they will be coming in at a somewhat decent rate. Granted where they are collected from, we all understand that, yet it has not stopped non-indo corals (micros and lords) from coming in. I use to pay $80 for a non-indo lord single polpy and now I can get the same thing for about $15-$20 a polyp (Pic is in my gallery, the bright green colony). Have got to love supply and demand.
