Ricky's 120 Stony Coral Garden

Time For An Update

Time For An Update

Its been two months since my last update and the tank looks great! I installed a three pump dosing unit in June for calcium, alkalinity and kalkwasser. The corals grow much faster with the stable parameters. I added one liter of DeNitrate rocks to help lower my nitrate from 25ppm but after a months use they have not dropped at all. Today was the first water change in two months, I have been frustrated with the tank and took a step away from the tank but now I am back.

Hey Ricky,

Why frustrated with the tank? It has come along so nicely. Beautiful corals and great husbandry for a tank with 25ppm of NO3.

Have you experimented vodka dosing? Powerful stuff for dropping your Nitrates down. Just be careful with the dosage. Yet, judging by the color and growth of your SPS, I think that all that Nitrate is doing something right. :)

More pics please!

Man this is so inspiring. I just picked up a 120 and can't wait to get it started. You have awesome results with jebaos, mag pump and halides. Nice

I did dose vodka and had a tank crash because of it, I lost all of my SPS. I will stick to the tried and true method of a protein skimmer, refugium and GFO/ROX 0.8 carbon.

Killer tank first off. Sorry for not reading every word of all 14 pages. Question. How far off the water are your lights?

I believe they are 16" above. In the winter time I run them at 12" because I don't have water temperature issues.
