Rimless 5g with Ecoxotic LED arm

Fish?
Hello, my name is Michael. I enjoy long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners and simulating the ocean's environment in a small glass box.

This is a 5g rimless Fluval with an Ecoxotic LED arm. The tank is 10x10x12.

The LED arm currently has two 12k whites and one 453nm blue. I am planning on adding another strip like this one and an all blue strip that I will run on a separate power source to simulate the dawn/dusk actinics. I may add a 1w led for some moonlight.

I will be using weekly 2g water changes as the only means of filtration, beside bio-filtration.

Here is a picture from this morning.

Nice Mike!

Re: your question about "gettin' the Korallia Nano stickin' up," mine isn't really pointed to far up...i just have it located near the top of the aquarium and it agitates the surface as well as provides plenty of circulation throughout. It's honestly a but much for the 4.4g but since you'll be adding SPS, out should be a nice fit for you!

Can I assume that with this light, I can keep a small rose nem? Also, is the tank still too "new"? I would tell someone, "yes", but honestly, could I do it?

After getting some of my corals back from my old tank (thanks Walter) and running a whole bunch of carbon to clear up the tank's cloudiness from adding them to the new tank, I finally have another picture. It's not bad, but I really need to learn how to start shooting in RAW mode. Here ya go.

The tank looks awesome, lots going on in that little ecosystem!

I really like how you elevated the tank, letting light peer out of the bottom, makes it look really dramatic!

Thanks! I'm beating myself up though for selling my ro/di unit. I may need to buy another. I'm hopefully getting a couple add-on led strips tomorrow which should make the tank "pop" more. I also need to get some more color in there. We'll see what happens.

Mike - your tank is looking nice. Great job.

Johnny C - the tank comes with a built in platform. I love the effect but only works with bare bottom tanks. Sand blocks the light.

Did you ever add any more LEDs to the arm? I have the same setup and only have added moon lights but was thinking of adding a strip

I have only added an all blue strip to the arm. I have considdered adding another combo strip, but I feel that my corals are doing alright as is.
