Yeah KT-150, I'd like to know more about this tank, got another thread, or some details to what you have here?

Im sorry its actually a 30x24x20tall. I wish it was a 30 wide. I was prob thinking of my ideal tank dimensions while posting. so sorry. I may be starting a thread shortly.

Very nice strendo! A couple questions for you:

1. What kind of sand are you using?
2. How do you like the Tunze and Vortech?

Thanks Dzhuo, It's Caribsea Seaflor Special Grade sand.
I like the Vortech's a lot, but the large Korilla pumps are also a good value. I have 2 in the back alternating. I'd probably recommend those over Tunze's just because they're a lot cheaper.

Thanks Snaza,The tank is 48x36x24. It's a 10X54w Ati powermodule. The skimmer is a reeflo Orca 250.

How do you like the Powermodule??? I've got the Aquactinics Constellation which is a sweet light, but have been considering parting ways with it just to try the ATI.

Got 3 quotes in so far, waiting for 3 more. I figured with the economy the way it is, places would be jumping to at the opportunity and getting quotes out as quickly as possible. I'm not finding that to be the case - I'm getting ridiculously slow responses and some pretty lousy service across the board so far.

That is surprising about the poor customer service. This is definitely a niche market though, so that may make a difference.

Fishybiz, that tank looks great! I like you have it setup on your desk!

I had a poor experience getting quotes as well. That was late last year and still don't have one from AGE. I think they were going to be one of the highest but still would be nice to have the quote. Vivid Aquariums for a Leemar was the next worst. Miracles was top on my list and not much more than GC.

Can you share your quotes in price rank( not actual price) and promptness?

customdusty- I really like it, it's putting out a ton of par and the corals are responding well to it. + It looks really nice!

I got quotes from AGE, Glasscages, AO, and Ocean Aquariums. It took about 2.5 months to get all 4.

And i'm going to end up building it myself after all that

Strendo - Thanks. Do you have any other fixtures that you would compare it against?

As far as quotes, costs, and service so far for me - here is a short summary.

LeeMar: Didn't get a quote from them because they won't quote directly to the public. When I asked them to suggest a place that could quote me one of their tanks, they said sorry we only work in SoCal, Arizona and Nevada. Their tone was rude and it seemed that they wanted me to feel embarrassed for even asking.

A.G.E.: Also won't quote direct, but responded immediately with just tons of information about their aquariums and what sets them apart. They suggested who I should talk to about getting a tank quoted, options I have, things I may have overlooked, etc. By far the most professional and came across as very prideful and knowledgable of their work. They sent me sample photos of tanks and overflows, worksmanship, and options. I still haven't seen a quote yet, and although I'm expecting it to be pricey - I'm impressed with their service and quality of product.

Miracles: Turned around a quote for me within 2 business days. Price as it turns it is very competitive. Probably the best deal for the money when considering the cost for delivery as well. Unfortunately after the quick turn around on the quote they became difficult to get a hold of, and more than a week passed until they returned any of my calls/emails. When they did get back to me they told me they were shutting down for another 2 weeks. If they would have answered the phones or responded to my emails, they would have long ago had my order.

Glass Cages: They have been by far the easiest to get in touch with and without a doubt the most responsive. Quote was to me within hours of my request, and came out to be the lowest price. Very personable on the phone and really just pleasant to work with. However, their delivery method is that they bring their truck to a local place and you have to go get it from the truck yourself along with everybody else who has an aquarium on the truck. To compare it to the other builders (who will deliver to my door), I requested front door delivery service which they quoted me a ridiculous amount, making this aquarium more expensive than Miracles. One difference though is that this tank would be all 3/4" glass, whereas everyone else has quoted 1/2".

Tenacor: Provided a quote within a day, and talked to them on the phone a few times - really a used car salesman feel to the whole thing. Pricing didn't lookk that good, but also didn't send me running. Unfortunately, the sales guy was trying to screw me and I called him on it. He got awfully shaken and defensive, and then starting rambling on about all of these special charges and justifications of cost. They apparently do some good work, but I'm just not feeling it.

Aquarium Obsessed: The experience has not gone well so far and I am going far out of my way to give them the opportunity. I still have not got a quote out of them and so far it seems that they are completely un-interested in earning my business. We will see.

Does anyone have an older rimless style tank? Most I've seen have been setup pretty recently. (Within the year or so)

If you are considering acrylic try envision acrylic, talked to the owner dirct and very informative and professsional. Thanks for info, I am/was searching for tank builder and have narrowed it down to AGE for glass and Envision for acrylic.

Since most of, if not all of the rimless tanks are canopy-less, do the tanks temerature seem to be cooler? It just makes sense to me that if there is nothing keeping the heat of lights in, like a canopy, the tank would run cooler. I wanted to get confirmation so I thought that I would ask here since most of the tanks I've seen on this thread use "floating" fixtures for thier tanks. Thanks

my tank still heats up big time but Im running two 400w mh on a 36" tank so that could be a factor ;)

Do you think it would heat up more if it were under a canopy?
