Is that a glass-holes overflow box? If so, how far from the top did you mount it? I just ordered one for my new 36x24x20 Rimless. :)

Thanks-
Rick

Yes it's a glass hole overflow. I installed it 3/4 inch from the rim to the absolute top of the teeth of the overflow. remember the water should be about 1/2 way up the teeth. When ordering you also want to put in special instructions that you want a top cover for the overflow so coralline won't grow inside the box! it's a free option at the time i bought mine so i don't know if it's still free but you definitely want one. with the teeth 3/4 inch from the top, the water line will be 1-1/14 inch below the rim of the tank

Any of you guys having a problem with dust/particles entering the tank?
I got so much stuff going into mine and its not floating it actualy gets caught in the current and makes the water look dirty...

Removing Center Brace

Removing Center Brace

I just got a 60"x30"x24" penninsula style tank from Aquarium Masters. It has oldstyle black trim on both top and bottom. I will be removing the top trim for sure and leaving the bottom trim. It is 1/2" starphire on three sides, has 3" bracing strips around the top perimeter as well as a 10" wide glass center brace. Also the whole thing except for the bracing is tempered glass... Anyway after seeing the incredible tanks in this thread I am wanting a rimless too, but after just spending $1400 on this one I was hoping to modify it by removing the center brace. Am I asking fro trouble? Anyone already done this?

I would definitely not remove the center bracing, I tried to do that once with my acrylic tank and it didn't work out so well.

I am going to pickup my tank on Saturday. I cant wait :)

I have a few questions. I read somewhere that I need a cushioned bottom for the tank to sit on? True? I hadnt read this until after the stand was built so I will have to modify the top if thats the case. Now it is just a flat top, like a table.

Is there anything else as far as setup goes that is different from a "normal" All Glass tank like I have had in the past?

Thanks- I cant wait to join the club.

Rick

it depends on how the bottom is done......

if the bottom is "raised" off the bottom plane, so only the 4 sides are in contact w/ the stand, then no padding is needed

if the bottom is flush, then padding is needed to keep any high spots in the stand from creating stress points that will eventually cause a failure to the bottom panel

you're all wrong. Your aquariums are trimless not rimless but i digress.... :p My tank is both rimmed and trimmed. I guess i shouldn't be in here :eek1:

I get my tank next week from Miracles and all of my goodies are starting to show up at my door. Pretty stoked for the new build to start coming together.

Here's a little preview of my tank, I'm very happy with the tank/stand. Pictures were taken by a friend of mine named Minh and they turned out great.
