Not sure this the right crowd that I should ask from, but here it goes anyway.
At the moment I am running a 120G. The tank not pretty IMO as it is full of scratches. It also has a rather undersized siphon box. Neverthess the setup is usable and has been running for years with no problem. I have been wanting to replace the tank but I am always intimidated by the size of the undertaking.
Lately I intend to do a rescaping and remove a damsel while I am at it. I wonder if it is a good idea for me to replace my tank to a rimless at this point of time.
I am running 2 x 250w DE MH pendants inside my hood along with 4 strips of ugly DIY T5. If I go rimless the T5 would have to go and I'll miss the supplementation. I also don't intend to get new light. And I'll have to find a place to stow the hood away.
What I have in mind is a 4x2x2' with a 1/2" glass. I can't spare much more. If someday I decide to put the hood back on, will the tank be able to stand it? The hood is made of wood and about 1.5' tall, with the mentioned lightings in it except the MH ballast.
Last but not least, I'll very likely have kids in the next couple of years.
