Rinsing live rock

Stupid question.
Is it harmful to rinse my live LR in tap water? I keep LR rubble in my sump and it can be a detritus trap at times. I want to rinse it in the slop sink and flush out some of the crap. Is this gonna cause a problem?

If you use tap water which normally has some clorine in it, I'd guess it might kill off the bacteria you want on your LR. Wash it with RO water or the water you take out of your tank when you do a water change and that won't be an issue.

+1

Don't use tap water... I actually use the water from water changes to clean my aquarium rocks or decorations, sounds silly to clean with dirty water but it's the best way to preserve good bacteria.

If the water you use DOES NOT have the correct amount of salt in it, it really does not matter if you use ro/di or take it to the powerwash to clean it - either way it will be dead when are done

Do as others have said - old tank water is the perfect thing for the job.

+1 on using fresh water. It will kill the good stuff on your rock due to osmotic imbalance. Just use old tank water or fresh salt water.
