Ritteri Anemone

I just (and very happy) inherited a gorgeous Ritteri anemone. It has a long lineage from some of the finest local tanks.

To that end, it has been some time since I had a Ritteri in my SPS tank and I want to get up to speed on how to feed it. It has been in my tank for over a week and is settled in and doing nicely so far.

What food(s) are the best for it and how should I feed it and how many times per week?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. And if this has been covered before on RC I apologize.....I did do a search and came up empty.

Many thx and look forward to your replies............

Mine eat about once a week. They like mysis, minced lobster, and scallops so far. Haven't ever tried anything else. They eat scallops the fastest though.

I would feed it a variety of seafood. Sometime this sometime that. You don't eat the same thing every day, do you? I feed my anemones seafood from the super market. Make sure there are no preservative add on to the seafood.

I feed mine raw tuna and shrimp, once about 3-4 days. Might have to experiment with different foods to see which ones it will accept.

All great info and thanks for the speedy responses. I have some Rogger's frozen food that I need to use up and it has all the goodies mentioned above.

One last, and really dump, question........How do you feed it? What are the easiest ways of feeding it so I don't tick the Ritteri off?

Thx again........

You can use tongs to place the food on the tentacles or do what I do and simply place it on the tentacles (works well with larger food).

For smaller foods like mysis you can use a turkey baster and just squirt some down into the tentacles. Do not try to force food into the mouth and you should be fine :)

Ok thanks....that sounds easy enough. I have both, tongs and a long turkey baster. I feed my fish mysis each night, so I'll just bast some mysis regular too.

On a different note.......does the rock work that it sits on have to be perfectly flat and/or smooth? I was told that it must be on a flat rock, but my rock work is very bumpy, like most rocks I am assuming, but I just want to make sure it is happy where it is?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I don't lose this guy.....I waited two years for my friend's to split and get his. So I am just being very precious.

Thanks again......

I feed mine krill, squid, pe mysis, shrimp, silversides (some report bad experiences with these, fortunately I never have), on occasion trout and salmon.

As far as the rock, I would say smooth-ish is good, but it doesn't have to be especially smooth.
