Ritteri anenome = 100% host ?

I had a GBTA but he took a night time stroll and ripped himself. Saved him just in time but he's still in bad condition. I'm thinking to have a Ritteri anenome instead and I'm debating. My questions are (#1)Will my Occelaris clownfish deffinately go into it because it's their natural host? The clownfish are Frostbite and Wyoming White I think they are Occelaris (#2) How hard is the care for this anenome? (#3) What's a reasonable price to pay for this dude (#4) Is 50G enough for a small version of the Ritteri anenome? Thanks for helping me!

Yes, they will likely go in the anemone immediately. They are not really hard to care for assuming you have good lighting and flow, the hard part is getting a healthy one to start with. The vast majority require treatment with cipro when they arrive. Once they are healthy they are just as easy as any other anemone. I think a 50 is ok for one depending on the dimensions but it will take up a large percentage on the tank once it grows.

1. There are no guarantees. That said, my ocellaris were in my magnificent within two seconds. 2. I agree that obtaining a healthy anemone is more than half the battle. I feed mine a piece of shrimp once a week. That is all the special care he gets. 3. I think the reasonable price is regional. In Az, I paid $100 at my local fish store. I did not have to treat him although I did have cipro on hand. 4. ? I don't know. If you acquire a small one, you have to realize that it might outgrow it's habitat.

Not 100% as a saddle anemone is a haddoni, which is not a natural host for Occelaris. Magnificia, gigantea, and mertensii are natural host for Occelaris.

A lot of users and anemone enthusiasts in this forum would agree that that list is not 100% accurate. I have yet to see a photo of a haddoni and ocellaris pairing in the ocean.

The carpet anemones can be called home by quite a few of the commonly offered clownfish species, including the clarkii clown, the pink skunk clown, the percula clown, the false percula clown, and many others. To be specific, S. haddoni hosts Amphiprion akindynos, A. chrysogaster, A. chrysopterus, A. clarkii, A. polymnus, and A. sebae. On the other hand, S. gigantea hosts A. akindynos, A. bicinctus, A. clarkii, A. Amphiprion, A. ocellaris, A. percula, A. perideraion, and A. rubrocinctus. The less common S. mertensii hosts A. akallopisos, A. akindynos, A. allardi, A. chrysogaster, A. chrysopterus, A. clarkii, A. fuscocaudatus, A. latifasciatus, A. leucokranos, A. ocellaris, A. sandaracinos, and A. tricinctus.

Of that list, which anemone usually stays the smallest? I have Ocellaris clowns, and would like to get a nem, but in a 40g tank, I don't want it do become an issue.

I've seen H. Malu recommended because of there size, clowns readily taking to them and the fact they tend not to wander.

I have talked to sk8r on this issue not too long ago, and I think she posted and wanted some other input, and said it would take some time to make corrections, I have not checked back since or looked at that sticky.

Fautin & Allen's book, "Anemone fishes and their host sea anemone's" is probably the most up to date list, good book to have.
