Ro di

Im looking at buying a 6 stage ro di,i was looking at our local stores and they are between 300 and 500 dollars,on ebay there are water general for 140 and soumi knight for 130 $ Has anyone bought one and are they any good?

I own a water general with the faucet adapter. This was my main RO/DI unit, but I was only getting about 90% effiency out of the RO stage so I was burning up DI resin at a good pace. I decided to just pick up a Spectrapure Maxcap unit. I'm getting close to 99% effiency out of the RO stage so I won't spend a fortune on resin anymore. I decided to just pick up the new unit because I would have spent more on DI resin in 6 months at the rate I was going through it. The water general unit is fine for drinking water though so it still remains under the sink.

I wouldn't worry too much about how many stages a system has - at least don't use that as your first criteria.

A four stage rodi consisting of (in order of water flow) a sediment filter, a carbon block, a ro membrane, and a deionization resin stage will do the trick just fine in most situations.

You can find many 6 stage systems on the market that are retro-fitted drinking water systems that are either mis-configured or have some other odd characteristics (e.g., horizontal DI stage).

Some things to look for:
Standard-sized prefilters, membrane, and DI cartridge
Brand name, high-rejection membrane
Specifications provided for each stage
Pressure gauge after the prefilters and before the membrane
Thermometer
DI bypass plumbing
Vertical DI stage
Refillable DI cartridge
Aluminum bracket
Quick connect fittings
Membrane flush valve
Clear housings
High-quality instructions
Customer support before, during, and after your purchase
A vendor involved in your hobby

Hey Russ can you give me the names of some good ro di syatems,im in Canada so Id probaly have to have it shipped.

I bought a 6 stage from soumi knight and I am very happy with the unit. I like the clear canisters, it makes it easier to see when the filters are getting dirty.

Or you can support an RC Sponsor and get one from BFS. I'm sure they can offer you a great deal. just head over to the sponsor forums.

I have a Ocean Reef +1 from theFilterguys. Its only $199.00. This is my 2nd system from them. I have 1 at my home and 1 at my office. I love them. Their customer service is top notch.......Jim Is a great guy.

In any case, I'm sure that you can get a good RO/DI from any of the suppliers here on RC for around $200.00.

This is what I have and it works great!!

I use the Soumi Knight RODI and although it does have the horizontal DI cartridge, its been good to me. When the DI is spent I will probably purchase a separate DI casing from www.melevsreef.com or somewhere similar and just hook it onto the system. I didn't purchase the soumi knight system because of the price it just seemed like a good unit and so far I can't complain.

Sedor - Just looked at some of those S knight products... Oh my.

Let me know when you are ready for a filter change and we can advise you re some filters that might be more appropraite than what can in the system when new.

In the mean time, you might want to orient that DI stage vertically with bottom up flow.

I wouldn't go with ebay, unless you are able to find a "brand name" used product on there. Time for me to brag... I got my Typhoon III reefkeeper for 75 bucks shipped on ebay with all new filters. Anyway... thefilterguys, airwaterice, bulkreef, etc. are all good places to look. Better to spend an extra 25-50 bucks for a quality product IMO.
