RO help

I just changed my resin chambers, a job I always LOATHE. There's SLWAYS a leak afterward. Anyway, 2 things when I turn on my flush valve, water goes through very slowly. It usually splatters through when on flush, so its like there's a restriction somewhere.

Second, only 1 day after changing the resin, the color is almost completely gone from the first stage. It usually takes months for this.

Is the membrane shot causing the restriction?
Is something else causing a shunt if water directly to the DI resin chambers?

Outflow "product" rate seems normal, while waste seems low.

TDS out: 000

Any thoughts?

No DI experience here- only RO.

Idk I have heard that membranes can dump wastes; can you get a tds reading of the RO product before it filters through the resin?

What TDS reading do you get from just the membrane Gary? Why no DI?

I agree, check what the TDS is coming off the membrane.

I've had two RO units where the check valve elbow in the RO housing was on the waste out port instead of the RO port, so you might check that if you open the RO housing. I've also had an old membrane get very mildewed and that restricted the waste output. Had to toss that one.

I've used those small DI cartridges and I hate them too. The seal is too small and easily lost, and resin gets on the sealing surfaces and causes leaks. Get a BRS canister and cartridge on a group buy and replace them. You'll be much happier.

If you are using mixed resin (color changing and nuclear grade), they'll separate quickly if they aren't tamped tightly. If you are using only color changing, you probably have a lot of TDS in the RO out to the DI from a problem or just TDS creep. I use a valve before the DI and run it to the drain for a few minutes to drop the TDS creep. The DI resin could be old too, but I've used very old resin and not had problems. I vacuum seal the bag between uses though.

don't wanna sidetrack but I've only ever used RO no DI and I never bothered to replace my TDS meter
