ro replacement

now u lost me again...? one probe? and I still am not sure how to find my flow rate.. and exatly what u were saying about the b4 and after the membrane stuff??

but I know this much at this point I wanna know how to make what I have work before I think about adding more cartridges.. lol

In this case, probe 1 will give you the TDS reading before the DI cartridge and after the memberane
Probe 2 will give you the TDS reading after the DI cartridge (which should always be 0)

If probe 1 is reading much higher than normal, then you know you have to change one of your prefilters (or all) and/or the membrane.
If probe 2 is reading more than 0 than you're going to have to change your DI resin.

To answer your questions:
-You might wanna check the membrane when you need to replace it. It will probably say what its rated for. It's probably 50gpd. But when you go to replace it I would just get the 75gpd membrane and the 75gpd flow restrictor (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/75-gpd-flow-restrictor-with-quick-fittings.html)

-To answer your probe question, read above.

-You really don't need any more cartridges. I have the exact same unit as you and it works perfectly fine just the way it is.

I wouldnt be worried about the membrane until it is time to switch it.
It's most likely a 50gpd, but when the time comes to replace it, just pay the extra 2 or 3 bucks for the flow restrictor (that has to correspond with the membrane rating).

When the time comes shoot me a PM or post a thread and I'll help you out.

Are all RO membranes the same??? This is an interesting question considering distributors are all marketing to a niche. I know "35 is 35" and "50 is 50" but what about designations like "Hi-S" (for high silicate removal). I know there are two distinct RO membranes TFC and ... I can't remember the other one. But pricing varies from one distributor to the next from $22-$135 for what appear to be the same product, different name. If it fits your housing, should you buy the cheap one? Any input?

yeah, the RODI company's replacement filters are MUCH more expensive then everywhere else. I believe the coralife pureflo II replacement 50gpd membrane (from coralife) is like $110, whereas you can get it elsewhere for like $35.

I dont think the membranes make much of a difference, but dont take my word. Might be better asking in the chemistry forum or something.

has anyone ever used the hand held meters? how do they work? and how does the replacement solution work? Do you go through it quick?

The hand held units work on the same principle as the mounted units, but they only measure in the place you stick them. They are great for cups of water, or buckets or water, or barrels of water, etc.

As for the solution, are you talking about the calibration solution? That is a known TDS value, and you set the meter based on the value of the solution. I've had my meter two years, and alas, have not calibrated it once. I use it to double check the mounted unit I have. Sometimes the handheld reads 1 when the mounted reads 0. The mounted is newer, but I should calibrate them all anyway to be sure I guess.

I understand that the solution is like the pH calibration solution - use it once and it's done. If the water were to evaporate from the solution, the TDS will naturally increase so the solution will be different from the package markings.
