RO sediment and carbon filter life.

Just wondering what PA's experiences might be on this...

My RO is approaching the 6 month mark (KENT maxxima Hi-S Deluxe) and the carbon and sediment filters to replace the old ones are on standby...but I only use the 60gpd unit for about 15gallons a week! Might I be able to get more life out of my filters as is for longer since I am only using them for a fraction of what they are capable of?

Hi,

I change my filters around every 3-4 months for sediment and carbon. You could probably get 6 months with no problem, however those two filters are fairly inexpensive. Take that into consideration as well as the protection they provide for the expensive membrane and IMO it is well worth the change at the 3-4 months mark.

Thanks,
Jeremy

It also depends on the water quality in your local area. The tds of my local water is a bit hard at 450, so I end up replacing the sediment filter at least once a month.

450 sounds pristine to me. I live in an historic house in downtown Indy and our water is filthy. 700+ on the TDS, and I've checked that with different sources. I change the sediment very often, and I have to have a chloramine removal DI cartridge to remove that nasty additive that's in our water.
