I am looking to get a 55 gallon barrel for ro water storage and found one that was previously used for citric acid.. Is this harmful are these food safe? I would obviously give it a good rinse before using, but curious if this would leech out of the plastic and into the water??

There's a guy in Dunkirk selling used food grade drums for $12. Check Buffalo craigslist.
Citric acid should be safe. Same stuff that comes naturally in orange juice. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly.

Was there someone closer to Syr that had some food grade containers? I have several Brutes, but I need something with a thinner profile. The handles on the brutes make them too large for my closet. I'd have to drop down to the 32 gal Brutes. But I think the food grades are taller and thinner, no?

sorry for hi-jack

I don't think Citric acid would release any chemicals that were "bad" for the tank, but could it alter the PH?
