Rocks are in, comments? (aquascaping is difficult)

Wife doesn't like it, thinks I can do better.
Any ideas?

Did get a great score though, 100 bucks for the rocks.

I like it also, however, if your wife thinks you can do better..you might want to listen to her, instead of us! LOL

maybe try to create some caves and such this is what mine looks like at the moment

It looks good. You could also completely separate them and use everything on the right 2/3 to get a little more height or some caves. Good start though!

Let her do it so that she can no how hard it is and get into the hobby with you. I also wish that I wouldn't have put egg crate on the bottom of my tank before sand. This would be the time to remove it if you were going to.

I think the rock work looks great but if the wife doesn't like it then it's not good enough.

It likely grew wider at the top and broke off of the column at the skinny point. That rock is awesome btw. Not something you run across every day.

make her happy. or have her try....it is not easy.

less is more. dont forget, many things come on rock, and corals grow. envision what your fully grown reef will look like and put about 50% of that vision in the tank.

Looks pretty good to me; what is her objection? I don't particularly like symmetry, so if it were my tank I'd not have the two high points at the same level and I'd not have each the same distance from the front glass - but that's just me! Very nice rock BTW.

I might consider using slightly less rock. It might get a little tight as corals grow in, especially towards the sides.

I was quite disappointed when she said she didn't like it, as it took a long time to do, but now I see she's right, it is too symmetrical. Left side needs to go higher.

I would suggest 2 islands. one can be the largest rock, the other a smaller pile of 2 or 3 rocks. and if you have to, one very small third island in front of and separating the other 2, but offset adn not symmetrical. Asymmetrical is more appealing to our eyes with non-symmetrical items, as is the rule of thirds. odd numbers are also more appealing to our eyes.

Thanks for the link. I'm going to raise the left side and try for some separation.

I would suggest not being afraid of using less rock, less is more in hardscapes. You can throw the pieces you don't like/use in your sump if you have room.
