Rod's Onyx

Any idea of Rod is currently shipping out onyx babies? This thread has finally broken me and I'm ready to throw down for some onyx. What's the probability of the juvi's turning into a full onyx? It would suck to never have them fully morph after throwing down $150 for 2 onyx!

Mike, I also agree! Rod is definitely shipping. I've bought a total of seven from him (three different buys) and all have morphed!

Boyd :D

Just got off the phone with Rod. Let me just say first off, he's one of the friendliest people I've talked to over the phone and meticulously answered all my questions/concerns and assured me that everything would be packed carefully, etc.

OK on to the news. I'll be receiving one regular juvi onyx with 2 bars and a good amount of black, and one mis-bar with a sort of T-shaped middle bar. Can't wait to see what it looks like, but I hear it's similar to Orion's mis-barred clown. Won't have them until Friday morning but man i'm excited!! I'll be sure to post back with pictures and monthly updates on my clowns. Thank you Rod!!

They're finally here!!

They're about 3/4" to 1"... pretty small little guys but the one with the misbar already has the dorsal fin turning black so this guy should be interesting. The other one hopefully morphs into a full onyx. Does everyone have their onyx on rod's food or are you using anything else?

Nice Onyxs

Nice Onyxs

I just started a 75g BTA tank and was thinking of a family of clowns and don't know much about them. Can you mix RodOnyxs with other clowns? I'm thinking of Black Oscellaris and True Percs. Also, does anyone know where a Gigantea Anemone is readily available? Thanks in advance for your advice.

mixing clownfish is not reccomended 1 pair per 100gallons is what usually works best long term

Gigantea is extremely hard to keep definetly an expert anemone

if you have more questions best idea is to start a thread and we can help you more specificly.

I think space is what is usually measured to see if you can keep more than 1 pair of clown. Even though I would only recommend it in a very big tank. I think if you have a 6 foot tank and place the hosting anemone/coral on opposite sides of the tank, you might be able to keep 2 pairs. Clowns don't tend to swim very far from their host. I also do not recommend this if one of the pairs of clowns is not ocellarius or perculas. From my experience all other clowns are more aggressive.
