how big are the fish that you have that are spawning? i have a percula pair with big spots of black (not onyx) that i just got and i am just wondering if they are mature enough to spawn and just need time, they are about 2/12 inches for the female and about 2 inches for the male. Do you think they are ready?

As far as size goes for spawning I really am not sure it has to do with size... Mine was pretty small when she started spawining and has gone through a major growth spurt since.... i thought mine was too small.

What I have noticed with Clowns is the female face changes before the first spawn. There faces get more blunt and mean looking... I mean it is hard to describe but once you see it you will know what I am talking about. I do not know if is to protect the nest or what.

I will try to get pics of mine once they lay the next nest. Right now the nest is hard to see it about 5 days in now. easier to get pics of the nest when they are orange or the eyes start to show.

Perc Pair

Perc Pair

Here are the pics as per requested. You get an idea of how big they are and the female when we got her has doubled in width. They have both gotten fatter, but the female especially has gotten alot wider. Her middle stripe also does'nt go all the way to the bottom, but i like it.

Percs4.jpg

see how much wider she is than the male, and she isnt much longer than he is.

I know that Rod sells them for $70 and they are not even mature and that that's a good price but was just looking around to see if I could find a slightly better price. So...If anbody doesn't want theirs I'll buy them.

Beware!! You get what you pay for! Rod has one of the finest strains of onyx percs there is. You may find a cheaper pair, but it's no guarantee that they are from the same strain or of the same quality. If you want a pair of onyx, just bit the bullet, pay the price and get them from the man himself!!

Mine have been hosting in a RBTA and I have not noticed any fading in color. I feed mine a mix of frozen cyclopeez, mysis, and spectrum pellets. I soak my foods in selcon and zoe a few times per week.
What does selcon & zoe do for clowns? I heard that cyclopeez has some chemical in its makeup that keeps every colored well. Do you think that if you stop using cyclopeez, will their color fake?

The cyclopeeze doesn't so much boost the black coloration as it does deepen the orange...to the best of my knowledge, anyways.

Selcon and Zoecon are supplements that are supposed to contain essential proteins and nutrients that any and all marine life can benefit from. I haven't used either yet, so I can't comment on how effective it really is, but many swear by them.

I just realized that for me to order rod's food. It's gonna cost me a minimum or 60 dollars for one package, from premium aquatics, unless of course rod does mail orders, but I dont think he does.

Better yet, get your favorite LFS to carry Rods Food, so you have a constant supply!

With you being in New Jersey you only need a standard UPS Ground shipment, since you're only two days away. That shouldn't cost you more than $10 for the shipping, and then another $10 for the box / dryice.

There is about half of the eggs left today, but they look very healthy. I’m not going to raise this batch, but somewhere down the road I will try to raise them. I have a new tank to worry about setting up first. I received my fish from Rod in May 2006. I may swap out my rose for another anemone when they go into the new tank to see if that helps with my female’s black color.

SWEET! Are you going to raise them? How long have you had your clowns?

You don't have to buy "Rods food" you can make your own.

It's only a home made mash with "natural Rose" added to it.

Natural Rose is Natural Astaxanthin Powder which will bring out the oranges..

I just go to an asian market and buy some white fish, roe, shrimp etc and blend it all up adding some nori and many other things laying around. This will last me for a year for about 20 bucks.

Sure you could make your own. But by the time you got done doing all the different foods he puts into it, it would cost you allot more even if you could figure out everything he puts into it. He puts alot more in than what you list.
