Rod's Onyx

Kovuu,
Here are my 5 onyx when they first arrived in September 2008.

I still remember the morning I waited for FEDEX and the truck arrived. I looked at the bags and said to myself "***! I just paid close to $400 for these?" Lol, because they were so small and it looked kind of sad.

But when I poured them into the foam box and acclimate, it was love at first sight.

I'm not really sure how old they were, but just based on what I read about Rod only ship out his clowns after 6months or so. I was quite happy with the colors of them for a 6 months old clowns.

Notice the massive RBTA mountain behind them? Yeah....

November 2008. This was what happen after only two months in the RBTA. All the black was pretty much gone. I was very upset and sold all the RBTAs(more than a dozen of them) at a steep discount.

After selling all the RBTA in the tank, I was nemless for awhile. The clowns were hosting in the frogspawn above, goniopora, ricordia, clams, and basically anything soft in the tank.
After about out of the RBTA, the clowns gained their black.

Very nice pictures and write up. Looking at them has me wondering if my male could possibly color up to what yours currently appear like. His current coloration is just like the last picture of yours hosting the Gonipora. However seeing you say yours lost their coloration after hosting a RBTA has me wondering. My guy just started hosting the rose in the tank and I can only hope for the best. They are inseparable!

I want to buy a pair of onyx percs from rod, how much are a pair of the nicest ones he sells. ( black dorsal fin and mostly black like gsmguy)

---
- Current tank info: 22 gallon, with mated pair onyx percula clownfish

those aren't rods onyx. they are from sustainable...and with their price tag you can buy a trio of rods :D

Wow, I have never associated the black to be related to the host. Has anyone else had this experience?

Your fish are absolutely beautiful BTW!

I can add that onyx will lose some black in some nems (in my case SI True perc wild onyx lost most her black in H. Magnificas over a month)

I like my anemone though so she will stay the way she is :P

dug this up. video of my Rods pair laying for me.

Resurrecting a older thread, but I'm sure many enjoyed this one and won't mind. I just recently lost my female clown and currently am looking for a replacement. Of course an Onyx is the top of my list. However it seem's as if these things are impossible to find. I've checked most major sites, even searching for SI True Perculas with no luck whatsoever. If one of you guys could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate the help.

^^^ +1 on this. I know it is a bit old but is there any listing that someone knows of (other than DD ) that has these?? or any of the other less common morphs for sale??

The first two pictures are Rod's Onyx son and daughter. The last two pictures are pictures of Rod's Onyx's grand daughter and her mate
