Rovster's Custom Reef Savvy build......FINALLY!!!

I never envy anything. But I've got to say that I'm envious of your collection. You're acros look great. Sorry about the alk issue.

Thanks man! Hopefully the alk issue won't be a big deal. Based on my calculations Sunday mid day I'll get my dosers going again. I'm planning on letting the alk drift a bit lower. Going to experiment with alk levels I maintained in my ghetto tank. We'll see.

I'm actually making some room for a couple of new frags from BC. Couldn't help myself:D

Is your Hawkins blue in colour or green? I've seen pics show both colours...and I've been trying to locate the blue looking version for many years in the UK...but havent found yet.

i cant take pictures like Rovi, but here goes:

Well, took 2 days and a large waterchange to bring my alk down. I am excited to get the tank back on track. I think I dodged a huge bullet here, and I'm wondering if this same thing happened during my "funk" and I just was unaware. Goes to show, you can't trust your tests too much. Its funny because I tell people that all the time but got messed up by it anyway, LOL! After some research, turns out the Hanna Alk checkers can give false readings, especially when nearing the end of the bottle. I ordered a calibration set (more like a reference solution) so that if in the future I see a change, I can verify that its correct before reacting.

I'm also curious to see if my stags color up with the lower alk. Its funny they are growing like a weed, but the coloring is just aweful, and the skin just looks thin. I had been running my alk at around 8, but going to shoot for 7.5 now to see if that makes a difference. That's what I had it at with my ghetto tank.

Alk is around 8.3 now and I restarted my dosers last night at a reduced amount so I can coast the alk down to my new target.

Seriously, get Salifert Alk kit. They last for ages and come with a standard to check accuracy of the test kit 6-9 months down the line if you suspect the test kit. They are cheap and so effective. I've never had issues with testing alk and have always relied on Salifert.

I used to use Salifert, but I'm colorblind so the checker is SO much easier for me. That said, I do plan on ordering a back-up Salifert kit to have on hand to spot check maybe once a week or every other week when my wife is around to help, LOL! I don't want to go through this again!:headwalls:

Sorry, my bad I completely forgot that...JB NY found the SAME issue with the Hanna Alk test and lost some corals...

Usually one only needs to check once a week, so if you have the wife/kids just tell you when the colour change occurs that would be good enough.

Having said that my bro is colour blind but he has issues seeing the difference between green/brown etc...

Salifert changes from blue to pink so will that still be an issue for you?

If I remember right the salifert kit wasn't terrible for me to read but those tests just stress me out to do with any kind of frequency, lol. Between that and the reference solution hopefully I won't get caught with my pants down again;)

Well today I added 4 fish that came out of QT. 3 anthias (female tuka, female bimac, male bimac) and female swallowtail angel. As suspected, my ***** chromis is making life impossible for them. Between him, my punk clown, and the powder blue I hope they make it! They have all been confined to the same corner of the tank. I had to put a makeshift top on the tank because a couple of them looked like they were ready to jump. Wish me luck! They all did fantastic in qt and we're eating like pigs.

I have my trap back. If you want to try it.

If Eddie doesn't score one for me at macna, for sure. I'm going away next weekend so will touch base then. Thanks!

If your powder blue has outgrown your tank, I'd be happy to buy him from you. Let me know.

Lol, I will, but you'll have to get in line;)

In not so good news, the tuka got ripped to shreds within a matter of hours. Back to the qt, and I don't think she'll make it:(

Damn chromis!!!! I knew it.....
