Rovster's Custom Reef Savvy build......FINALLY!!!

Yes, it does the same thing but they are different in composition and design. Matrix is more readily available. According to reefvet and his studies matrix is very good but Siporax is a smidge better. I was going to use matrix but found the Siporax on Amazon. Matrix is about $10 cheaper for 2L.

Not cleaning, just removal of detritus that may be clogging the media I suppose. I do the same with the live rock I have in my sump. Periodically I take it our and swish it in waterchange water....

got it.

I guess its only a concern cause of your minimalistic aquascape? Dont want all folks going crazy and adding another reactor if its not necessary.

Mainly yes. You've seen my minimal scape. Most people run it in bags or "bins" but reefvet has done some studies on the stuff and apparently it works as advertised. Most do not run it in a reactor, that's the kind of experimental aspect. I'm actually hoping it will allow me to back off the carbon dosing.

Hey you still have that shaggy beast of a sunset mili

My alk issues decimated it. Sad:(

It's still kicking but it's so tore up I can't even look at it. I almost threw it in the garbage the other day but part of me just wants to hold on just to see if it will come back.

Keep it. I've nursed dying and very rough looking acros back to full health; it takes months, but in good water acros are very resilient and will make a nice comeback.

I know. I've brought some back from the dead too. Just so frustrated with this stupid alk issue. My fault for blindly trusting my tests. I guess the good news is the majority of my acros are looking decent again. My freebie BC red table is looking hawt pink again:D

And at least you know the issue now.

Fool me thrice shame on you and me, fool me four times, NEVER!!!!

Damn you Hanna checker, tried to fool me again. Luckily this time I have salifert to throw me a life line. Just checked my alk with Hanna and it read lower than I expected....test with salifert and it's exactly what I expect....test again with Hanna and it agrees with first test......test again with Salifert......agrees with first salifert test.

So I call Hanna and tell them about this. According to them technically I'm still within range. BS!!!! So while I'm on the phone I tell Hanna I have two other bottles of the same lot as the first. While on the phone I crack open a new bottle bs do the test right there.....voila! Test reads higher, which is where I thought I was, which agrees with salifert.

Ha! I'm going to do the same with the new bottle and see if it starts to drop off at the same point again. For the record I saw the drop off at the 16th test....yes my anal retentive self dates and records all my test results. BOOM, whatcha think about that??:wildone:

Rovi- you have yet to mention how far off they are, salifert and Hanna. Can you share that info or is it a top government secret?

Any word on the pics of whatever was in the box that mysteriously appeared on your doorstep? I think it had a BC on it?

I'd store the Hanna reagent in the garbage

+1

I had so many different readings with bad reagent batches on my Hanna ULR Phosphorus meter. Readings were well outside the error margin etc...I gave up and now rely on Salifert and Elos for my test kits.
