I would like to announce that the Alpha 200, 250, and 300 is receiving a nozzle change. The original design implemented the manual change out of different length nozzles for different air draws. The new design gets passed over from the Bubble King Deluxe and Super Marin series, and one that the Alpha 170 has already received, which is a tunable venturi. This will allow users to adjust the air draw by turning the nozzle inward (less air flow) or outward (more air flow) based upon the demands of the system and the performance desired by the hobbyist.

Well.. I only have one nozzle, so will be one of the first in line to get one of these....

All the new 170's already have this but it isn't pictured on the website correct? Has this resolved all the earlier issues with the 170s?

Air and water draw numbers into the body should remain virtually unchanged, and performance staying the same as what was offered by the original red nozzles. Currently, only brand new skimmers will have the update on them, however we expect to have updated nozzles available for purchase for a small charge in the near future for those hobbyists wishing to change.

Hello Jeremy,

Can I send the order for Alpha 250 today and get the new model also with white neck it's perfect ? I can wait ....

Thanks

I'm considering a new skimmer for my 185 sps with medium bioload. Which skimmer would you recommend? Also can someone give me the true dimensions of the 200 and 250. I've seen a couple of different numbers from several websites.

Jeremy I would like to get one of these new adjustable nozzles to try to get my 200 working right. I am still fighting it some. I raised it up another 1/2 inch and am able to use the larger nozzle but I am not pulling much out unless I run very very wet. I am hopefull the new nozzle will get me working better.

Got my alpha vertex 170 cone today from premium aquatics. Wow what a well built skimmer can't wait to get this beast wet!!! Thanks too premium aquatics fast shipping and great job on packing it up. Thanks Jeremy I'm glad I didn't go with the 200 that would have been way too big for my 120. Just got a question for you. What water level is best for this skimmer too sit in? Thanks again Jermey and premium aquatics will do buisness again with you in the future.

Glad you got the skimmer ok! They really are a beast, and the size of them is usually underestimated from the photos. I would recommend starting at 9" or 9.5" of sump depth, and have the venturi screwed two full turns out from fully closed.

Hi,

I just recieved my Vertex 170 and it doesn't have any instructions... This is my first in sump skimmer. Can anyone tell me the basics?

Thanks

Also, I didn't receive additional nozzles, just an additional clear tubing that connects the pump to the skimmer... is this right? Was I supposed to get a different sized nozzle as well?

Thanks

I looking to get a new skimmer for my son tank. 185gal DT and 40 sump. Which is a better performance skimmer a alpha 200 or the SRO xp 3000 int.

Tia

Hey Jeremy,

I got one of the original Alpha 250's and wound up with one of the 47mm nozzles eventually and seem to like it best of all three earlier options.

I'm curious though about the new adjustable nozzles. What will the new adjustable version offer that my current 47mm nozzle doesn't besides the obvious... adjustability? Should I spring for the new one, is there an improvement in the already astounding performance of this very beastly skimmer?

Please let me know,

Thanks!~

PS: Here's a recent nog shot for ya... 4 days worth!~
