I have had this Gramma for a long time. He used to live in my 90g and I recently transferred him to my 150g. He now never shuts his mouth at all. He even eats with it open. Does not seem normal to me.
Hmmm...Gaping mouths/Deep breaths are sometimes a sign of stress or shock. I assume your Params are fine? Could maybe be a broken jaw...But I don't know if thats possible, any fish he might fight with?
Water Parameters are great unless too clean can be a problem for fish. This is my SPS tank.
If it were shock or stress I believe he would be dead by now as this wide open behavior has been going on for awhile. He eats and has good weight, color, fins.
It is very peculiar, so I decided to post and see if anyone else ever saw such a thing.
I will say............I have had some very bad luck with fish in this 150g tank. I may be hexed.
I had a cardinal that that happened to. It didnt seem to bother him at all, but he did die about 3-4 months later. I think he was not able to catch enough food. hope you have better luck
If i remember correctly there is a fish disease and a constantly gaping mouth is one of the symptoms. The name escapes me but I do remember its pretty much terminal and uncureable.
